Babies on the Brain

working out while TTC

So I did google, but came up with a few mixed responses.

I used to work out regularly (3-5 x per week) But for that past 6 months I have become a lazy lazy person.  I have an eliptical, but I get bored.  I also have The Firm and access to on demand work out programs (most are 30mins).

Is The Firm too high impact while TTC (especialy in the 2WW)?

ETA:  I would like a workout that I can potentialy keep up while pregnant

Re: working out while TTC

  • You are TTC, not pg.  I worked out hard the entire time TTC and toned it down a bit once I got my BFP.

  • I'd go with do whatever you feel comfortable with. I was/am working out 5 days week. When we were TTC I did not change my workout routine at all and at that time I was doing at least an hour, and 2 days a week 1.5 hrs. I don't think your workouts will affect TTC unless you stop having periods from those intense workouts.

This.  Usually doctors will recommend not starting anything new while pg, but you can certainly start a new routine while TTC and continue with it during pg.  That said, I mountain bike now, but will stop when pg or possibly during the 2ww.  IMO, too much risk for getting hurt.

  • You can work out normally.

I run more than 60 miles a week...of course, I'm not pregnant yet, but that isn't why.

Exercise is good for you when you are TTC so long as you are eating enough calories and  maintaining a healthy lifestyle [ex. don't have exercise compulsive disorder or an eating disorder].

very correct I am not pg - and probably wont be this cycle, I have a probelm with gaining weight quiclly if I don't manage what I eat well and work out so I would like to make sure I do things that I can stick with if I do eventualy someday have the joy of getting pg for the health of myself and the phantom fetus.

I also read that "bouncy" aerobics are not healthy while TTC?

  • Like the other ladies said, you have to do what you feel comfortable with.  I was lifting, riding bikes, rollerblading, etc.  If you are concerned about being able to continue a routine while pg, perhaps start with something lower impact but still effective that you can do while pg.
  • I did anything and everything while TTC.  I can't imagine that any aerobics are bouncier than running and calisthenics, and I got KU.

I have never ever heard of a doctor telling someone to change their workout.

Like I said, I'm a marathon runner.  I work out 6 days a week, eat plenty of healthy foods, and take step aerobics once a week.

Any good doctor is going to tell you to workout doing whatever you want.

It's like "drink til it's pink" but for exercise...keep going until you get a positive HPT.

  • Thank you for the great advice from everyone!!!  I think I just scared myself by googling.  It is good to hear real life expereinces.  Now I just need to keep up the motivation ;o)

This was exactly what I was trying to say :)

I understood!  I was just letting myself get worried because one of the sites I found said that doing high impact aerobics/bouncy moves (they didn't give examples but I was reading in jumping jacks and some kickboxing moves) during the 2ww could harm implantation - obviously not necessarilly true and probably way off base.  Thats why I always come back to my ladies on BOTB for some grounded wisdom.

    Thanks again!
