Marathon nursing vs. the bottle

dd marathon nurses a few times a day-mainly the morning and at night. I introduced the bottle a week or so ago (with pumped BM) and she took it great(dd #1 always hated the bottle).

I've noticed that if I give her a 4 oz bottle of BM, she'll sleep right after, but when she nurses, she does both sides, then 20 minutes later, roots to nurse again. This can go on sometimes for 2 hours. She latches fine, and I can hear her gulping milk....so I'm not sure why this happens.- I've been giving her bottles more the past few days, b/c it's just easier this way with a toddler-it's hard having only one time when she wants to nurse so often.  But will she eventually not nurse on the breast if I keep doing this?

Re: Marathon nursing vs. the bottle

  • Seeing as how a few gals have told me that giving the bottle to my starved baby is not the best idea, I can bet the answer will be yes.
