c-section mommy's: some pp questions

my ob had me come in last week at 2w pp for an incision check and said I don't need to come back until October for my annual exam.  Does this sound right?  I just sort of assumed I'd be coming back for a 6 week pp check up, but he said it's not necessary.

also, I forgot to ask, but when are we allowed to have sex again?  I'm definitely not thinking anytime too soon since my incision and the area around it is so sensitive still, but just wondering.  also, when you finally did- did it hurt? I just assumed it wouldn't since there was no trauma to the vag, but a friend of mine said sex hurt on the inside after her c-section.  Is this true for everyone?

TIA!

Re: c-section mommy's: some pp questions

  • It doesn't sound right to me to not go in for a 6 wk.  I went for 2 incision checks (1 and 3 wks pp I think) and then I went back for a 6wk PP and my annual was just last week so it's not like he postponed my 6wk sine my annual was so close.

As far as the sex, we did it at 4 wks PP (didn't get the go ahead from the dr at that point but we were ready).  My belly and incision area were still sore / sensitive but not bad at all.  I did hurt inside so I wouldnt say that it's true for everyone, but I've read from some women on here that it did hurt for them.  So I guess everyone is different.

  • That does seem weird to me for your OB to not have you go back at 6 weeks PP.  I went at 2 weeks PP for an incision check and then back again at 6 weeks PP.  At the 6 week PP appointment we talked about birth control and how things were going and my OB put me on meds for PPD.  He also checked to make sure my uterus was back down to a normal size.  My annual wasn't until 6 months PP.

As for PP sex- it hurt me.  I bled for 8 weeks, so it was quite awhile before we tried- and I'd been on bedrest for 10 weeks before giving birth, so it'd been a long time since we'd had sex, so that might have had something to do with it.  It took a couple of tries before we could do it without it hurting me.  Oh, and my OB wanted me to wait until I'd stopped my PP bleeding to have sex to make sure my cervix was closed.

  • I thought I was the only one. My OB told me I didn't have to see him until four months which sounds weird. He never made me come in tocheck my incesioni still have the tape on it.
  • I just came in for a 4 week check. ?She said I didn't need to come back until my annual in October as well. ?I was told I could resume all sexual activity as well as exercise. ?We tried that night, and it hurt because I was so dry. ?KY is your friend!! Are you nursing? That keeps you dry.?

  • I had a 2 week and a 6 week check.  OB told me I could have sex at 4 weeks..  but we actually waited til like 7-8 weeks for IC because I was scared of the pain.  It did hurt and actually still does a little.  Make sure to use lots of lube.

  • yeah, i went in for a 6 week pp check..hmmm, not sure why the wait?

as for sex..im one of those that it REALLY hurt..not sure why..people say it was the BF'ing making it dry..but it continued to hurt well after i stopped BF'ing and my AF started again..I was still uncomfortable for a few months..it stunk for me :( yeah, and the lube does help though ;)

  • Not to be an alarmist or anything but THAT IS ILLEGAL! 6 week pp check is MANDATORY for all c-sections! I cancled my first appt and the nurses were all over getting me in by week 8 because otherwise my surgeon could be in BIG trouble with licensing.
  • i had a 2w PP incision check and a 6w PP appt - he did a pap, checked to make sure my uterus was OK, checked incision, etc. I can't imagine waiting until oct!

we were given the go ahead for sex after 6w - still haven't done it b/c i got my first PP period right afer that appt and it's been pretty heavy and gross.... and my incision still has a little soreenss so i'm worried about sex still.

  • I saw my doctor 7d pp and then 4.5w pp. She did an very quick internal at 4.5 to make sure things were doing well (cervix fully closed, etc) and told me to wait another week for sex... She was headed out to africa to a doctors without borders thing, so she couldn't see me.  She also felt my abdomen from the outside to be sure everything was ok...

I assumed all doctors did 6w pp checks (or close to 6w!)

  • I had an incision check at 3 weeks and then a pp check at 6 weeks. ?Then he's having me come back in September for a pap/annual. ?

PP sex has hurt some. ?I was on pelvic rest since January and am breastfeeding, which supposedly makes you dry and makes things hurt (even with lube). ?But with enough patience and time, it feels better. ?
