High-Risk Pregnancy

Extreme pressure when standing?

Has anyone experienced this? I'm okay if I'm sitting or laying down, but when I stand or walk there is immense pressure in the pelvic region. So much so that I couldn't make it through a quick trip to the grocery store today. I was using my hypnobirthing techniques just to try and alleviate the pain/pressure long enough to get home. It also doesn't start the second I stand up but after about 30 seconds to a minute. Is this normal 25week pregnancy pain or should I call my peri?

Also, it seems like my baby is transverse (feeling feet on one side and head on the other side consistently) so the thought that her head would be causing the pressure does't seem to add up in this case.

Re: Extreme pressure when standing?

  • I got this same feeling around 24ish weeks. My doc did not want to check me cause she said I had too many things working against me at the time, and did ot want to stir anything up by doing an internal. She said if it became completely unbearable or there were contractions, I needed to let them know. It has gotten better and I think it must have been when baby turned head down.... but I do have pressure when I stand.  I contribute that to being on bed rest though and lying most of the time, just a shift....

I would def. let your doctor know, I was going to say it was from her being head down but if you do not think this is the case, I would say it is cause for a red flag. Best of luck!!!

  • I was on bedrest for 8 weeks before I delivered.  From week 20-24 I would have pressure when I went from lying down to standing.  Evan was head down and very low in my pelvis and I think this caused the pressure.  Definitely let your doctor know in case things are happening without real contractions etc.

I had incompetent cervix, but when I finally got admitted at 23 weeks I was 3-4 cm dilated (with a cerclage in place) and I had never felt a contraction.  Even the morning I gave birth, I had what I thought was bad cramping/a bladder infection (nurses could not feel contractions/nothing showed up on the monitor) but by the time I started bledding I was already 9 cm dilated.

  • I had this pain when he switched from transverse to head down.  I didn't know he'd switched as he was actually lying in an awkward head down, bottom to the side position and he still felt transverse to me.

My doctor checked me out, did an u/s to be sure and assured me everything was normal.  It felt a lot better knowing what was going on.  I would recommend calling the doctor to see what he/she thinks.

The most important thing is taking care of yourself and the baby.  Don't hesitate to call, you'll feel better and they'll be able to help if you need it.

  • I would definitely call your peri. That pain in me means I am effacing. I've lost 4 cm of cervix in 2 weeks.
