I know there was a post about this the other day but I cant find it. How can you tell the difference between normal out put and leaking of amniotic fluid. Today I had a little more fluid than nomal when I woke up and I am wondering about it.
I remember that post, and I think the main way they said to tell is that amniotic fluid has no smell. Also, if you wear a panty liner it will show the color better and you can see if it's clear or if it has a certain color to it.
Lay down for a about 10-15 minutes. If you stand up and feel a gush of water than your fluid might be leaking. I would also put a liner in so you can see if it does have an odor. Some people say it smells sweet.
I had a few days when I thought my fluid was leaking because I had an increase of discharge and it was really watery. I have been wearing panty liners daily now, and it is better. My midwife said it sounded like normal pregnancy discharge....

If you are wondering at all I would let your dr know. I had been leaking fluid for about a week and didn't know it until the day I delivered Lydia. They tested me and figured out it was amniotic fluid and we needed to get her out! I just thought it was discharge.
