Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Late m/c's- who got answers?

I have my follow up on September 3rd.  As of right now, I have no answer as to what happened.  I'm fine, baby was fine.  OB was waiting on some more testing to come back on me so we'll see what that shows.  I noticed on the Wednesday check in for late loss that a lot of us never got answers, just a big questions mark.

Re: Late m/c's- who got answers?

  • I don't have a definite reason for my loss.  I know my cervix started shortening and I went into PTL, but there could be a couple of reasons why my cervix started shortening:

    - I originally got pg with triplets and lost one at 13 weeks. That one was sitting on my cervix and could have caused my body to think it needed to go into labor to miscarry it, even though there were two healthy fetuses remaining.

    - Could be because it's more common in multiple pregnancies in general.

    - Could be just because my cervix is stupid and they're not really sure if it would be an issue again even if I were to get pg with one.

I just know that if/when I get pg next time, I'm requesting a preventative cerclage right off the bat.  My doctor kind of insinuated that it might not be necessary, but I'm not taking any chances.

I hope the OB comes back with some answers for you!

  • It's been seven months since I lost my angel. I still do not understand why this happened to us.  I was 31 weeks along. I know in time we will all heal.
  • No answers for me either.  They *think* her organs didn't grow to the size they needed to, but there was absolutely no answers what so ever.  I hope that you find out something, it is very hard not knowing what happened.  Sending you hugs, I'll be thinking of you.
DD(9)DD(5.5)DS(3)DS(born 2/1/11) July 2006, lost a baby at 8 weeks, natural miscarriage , May 2009 lost Zoe Eliana at 17 weeks no reason known, possible under developed organs. Lost two more babies in September 2009 at 7 wks 4 days. Had myomectomy surgery to remove a large fibroid in November 2009.
  • I don't know if we'll ever know for sure why we lost our two boys at almost 23 weeks.  There were a lot of complications from the beginning of the pg though and just even the fact that we started with five babies probably was the lead factor in all their demise.  I had my follow-up with the ob already and she deferred a lot of the why questions to the peri who I'm seeing in a couple weeks.  I honestly don't think they'll have any more info for us though.

I'm so sorry for your loss and I really hope that they will give you some answers.  Let us know what you find out...

  • I'm so sorry for your loss and can't even imagine the pain you have been in. We did have an answer for our loss (Down Syndrome) but had no warning about it what-so-ever (all early testing was fine). My doctor thought at the time that our loss was due to infection, but the chromosome analysis came back a month later with a Trisomy 21 karyotype.

I hope that you get answers that you are looking for from some of the testing your doctor is running. I cannot imagine never knowing why something like this happened. Our answer was very humbling and quite unexpected (especially since the early risk assessments were normal) but helped us feel a bit more at ease with future pregnancies. The DS was a complete trisomy, meaning it was a fluke. Knowing that it was a fluke didn't make us any less nervous for the other pregnancies, but we had hope that it would go better.

  • i lost my daughter at 32wks6days due to lack of oxygen from going into PTL and i had a uterin rupture and a placental abruption. the only reason that they can tell me that it happened to me is getting pregnant too soon after my dd (5months after having her). I have had 3 c/s (including my angel baby) and aparently my body didnt completely heal in the time before i got pregnant with McKenzie which caused my uterus to rupture. i hope that makes sense
