Moby Wrap vs. Baby Bjorn

I like the look of the Moby Wrap but the Bjorn looks sturdier.

Thoughts on either one?

Re: Moby Wrap vs. Baby Bjorn

  • I never tried a Moby, so I can't make comments on that. I did have a Bjorn with DD, and she LOVED that thing.  It was nice and sturdy. We did have to switch and get the one with extra back support as the original one was just too hard on our backs, if we carried her for too long in it.  We tried a Koala Sling for her a couple of times, but she hated it.  However, when she was about 1 y/o I made my own ring sling, and that worked well for us (at least at that age).  I could hold her on my hip, and if she'd have been smaller, I could've carried her in it like the slings.
  • From what i have heard on the other boards, The Moby Wrap is amazing. Great to use right from the start. It is hard to wrap at first though. Bjorn is good when they are a bit older and some people have had back problems from them. I am going to still try out both.

  • I didn't care for the BB and used the Peanut Shell Slings (which I love).
I do have several friends that swear by the MW.  If/when we have another LO I will give MW shot.  I'm not sure this was helpful to your question though.

  • I have the BB and didn't really care for it. I had a pretty chubby baby so It hurt my back...no support at all for me. I have friends that swear about the MW. I'm very curious to try it for my 2nd. :)
  • I LOVE the moby wrap. We also have a hand me down Bjorn, but DD didn't like to too much. She love the Moby wrap. The moby feels more secure than the Bjorn to me since she is wrapped up and much more snug. I have also read that the Bjorn cause back pain later on as the baby gets bigger. You might also want to look into the Ergo, which is like the Bjorn, but better for your back. I also have a BabyHawk Mei tai carrier, which I really like (it is prettier and easier to put on when we are out and about). I am looking into the Ergo for when she is bigger and I think DH would be more like to use since it doesn't involve wrapping.
  • I never got the hang of the Moby.  I had a sling for when DS was really little, but now I have a Beco Butterfly 2.  I wish I had discovered that sooner because I love, love, love it!  It even comes with an infant insert which would have been very useful.

If you decide to try the Moby, I have one I can sell you - cheap.  Email me (jaejaevee at gmail) if you're interested.

  • We tried a Slingling (similar to a Peanut Shell) and an Infantion sling which DD did not like. She hates being in the cradle position. With the Moby, she is more upright so she likes it. We could be shop for hours with her in it and she feels comfortable. We also have the BJorn which DD likes as well. I prefer using the Moby. It's easier for me to put her in it and use. My husband likes the BJorn. I think because I'm petite, the BJorn just wasn't a good fit.

  • I love my Moby Wrap.  It's super comfy and once you get the hang of it, pretty easy to put on.  LO will hang out in there all day. It's great for running errands, I just strap it on at home and then when I get to where I'm going put LO in.

I also have a Baby Bjorn (hand me down from a friend) and LO just doesnt seem as comfortable in it.  I still use it every once in awhile, but the Moby is definitly my fave.

H will wear the Moby  around the house, but he won't wear it out.  haha  I think he thinks it's too feminine. He will wear the Bjorn out though.

  • I used the Mony for my second child and loved that wrap! My baby would sleep in it for up to 5 hours. When he got to big, I transferred him to the ERGO. I own a natural parenting store in Fullerton, Belly Sprout and sell both of them.

The problem with the Bjorn is that the baby dangles by their crotch and this compromises their spinal development and hip placement. It is NOT a safe carrier for babies and uncomfortable for the parents as it stresses too much weight on the upper shoulders and back. A baby in the Moby and ERGO is fully supported and the weight is distributed across the back and hips so that is comfortable for the parents!

    Good luck,

    Christy

  • I have the Ergo and love it.
  • Is the Bjorn the only one that allows the baby to face out?  That was the only way my daughter liked it so we didn't use it until she was older and had head control.  I agree it can be tough on your back but I have looked at ewrgo, beca, and moby wrap and it looks like babies all face in with a fron carry -- is that right?
