2nd Trimester

Once you pay 25 cents.....

for barely worn baby clothes at garage sales, you just can't go back. I just can't bring myself to buy anything new, even going for the less expensive stuff at the consignment shops (4-10bucks).....

I figure I have a good 9-10 years before the kid gives a crap about what he wears, so I am thinking we might stay on the "gently used" clothes bus. Even "toys with experience" will be considered.....

  • My SIL's SIL (got that?!) had two girls and was selling her stuff in a garage sale.  She brought all the tubbies over here to let me go through them first.  We spent 50 bucks (which is a ton in garage sale land), but we got EVERYthing from newborn to 24 months.  Her youngest was born last Nov, so the sizes should match up well.  Some of the stuff still had tags!  We're hoping to use the Easter dresses in weddings DH and I are in next spring.  I'm with you!!!
  • I've been wanting to go to some garage sales around here lately to look for clothes, baby furniture, etc, but its been SO HOT and I just can't bring myself to brave the heat to rummage through all the stuff. Maybe I'll get lucky and score some awesome stuff at a garage sale in the Fall.
  • I LOVE yard sales and have gotten so many cute things.  I know some of it is pretty warn, but when you go to yard sales you can be picky plus a lot of babies grow out of clothes so fast that they are still new looking.  Very addicting!!

You need to go soon, because once school starts the garage sales really cool down. I have found a lot through criag's list. I have also found people selling bags of clothes, but then you aren't really sure what you are gonna get.

  • Yeah, my job ruined this for me. Basically, the amount of meth use where I live is OUTRAGEOUS. And working in the field that I do, I know that once fabric has been exposed to meth in any capacity, it's toxic, and there's no way to remove it unless you burn the fabric.

And really, it's tougher to spot a meth user than you'd think.

  • I can't wait to know what we're having so I can hit garage sales. I have also fallen in love with the Children's Orchard. Most of the clothes are $1.99 and are all in such great condition (mostly name brand too).
  • My sister makes out like a bandit, though my nephew has reached an age where used clothes are harder to come buy (because he is wearing toddler sizes and my sis says toddlers are hard on their clothes and there are fewer used available so less selection).

Her only caution is to be careful of your sizes - she ended up with a lot clothes she expected to fit at certain points, but then my nephew was a large monster child, lol.  But she wasn't out a lot of money for the clothes, so she wasn't too bothered.

That's CRAZY!! I totally didn't know that. The rate of meth usage in my area is also really bad. Makes me a little nervous now haha

  • Yeah, meth is nasty ***. The same applies to cribs, etc. The person only needs to smoke meth in the house once to make everything toxic.

It's really sad to watch CPS remove kids from parents for meth use, and then they also have to take away to poor kid's baby blanket/stuffed rabbit/favorite shirt and burn it because it's been exposed to meth.

  • YEP!!! I paid a total of $30 for 83 outfits (size newborn through 9 mo), a swing, brand new bottles, and some booties.
