Pregnant after a Loss

Scared about possible induction

So I know it's only a possibility but I am really worried that I'll have to be induced due to PIH. ?I am just worried that because my body isn't ready (I'm not the slightest bit dilated) that it will end up in a c-section . ?As much as I want to meet my little girl I just really would like to go through it naturally and see what it feels like to go into labor on my own. ?

Re: Scared about possible induction

  • im sorry you are having these fears. I know its normal to be feeling this way...just know that your doctor will do whatever is going to be best for your baby....and just think, she is going to be in your arms before you know it!!

  • Is your BP high?  I might have some suggestions for you to get it down.

Well put!  I'm sorry you're nervous.  In the end, it will all be okay.

  • only normal!  Just as long as she gets here healthy.  That is all that matters.

  • Ok, first of all, start having sex...remember sperm is a prostaglandin and it can help soften the cervix.  You can also try visualize therapy, which I know sounds kooky, to picture your cervix softening and thinning.

As far as the BP, you need to eat more protein.  I was induced for PIH and it wound up in CS.  This time, my MW said if my BP goes up, she will order me home to eat a steak dinner followed by eggs followed by lots and lots of protein.  She said its a very effective way to deal with PIH and PE.  I hope it helps you.

  • ItsMsAlbin--Maybe you are better-informed on the subject than I am, but I have always heard the opposite about protein. My husband has pretty bad hypertension as do both of my parents (I've escaped it so far, thank goodness!) They were all told to AVOID the protein from meat, and not to overdo it. That particular kind of protein can actually raise your BP rather than lower it. Now I don't know if this is different for PIH, but I always assumed that hypertension was hypertension no matter what the source or the cause? I'm not trying to say you are wrong, just wondering if there is a difference between the types of hypertension?

  • EAS - I'm in the same boat as you right now except for we'd be induced for excess amniotic fluid. We'll find out for sure tomorrow afternoon. I agree. It sucks that there is the possibility of not getting to experience labor and childbirth how it would occur naturally. At this point though, for both of us since we're so far along, I guess we have to put what's best for our babies first. I'll be thinking of you : )
  • If it makes you feel better, I had a fantastic induction experience. I was induced at 38 weeks, with no progress of any kind. The cervadil stayed in place for 12 hours, and I was 2 cm dilated when it was removed. I opted for an epi then since I was feeling contractions and didn't know how long I'd have to wait for the epi. It took from 6-8 pm to dilate to 4 cm, and only 45 minutes to get to 10 cm. When the resident realized I was crowning, my OB had just enough time to get a gown and gloves on before DD made her grand entrance. I know it's hard not to worry, but you'll do great

Also, don't think that you're missing out on "natural" childbirth. Your body is going through all the same stuff whether it gets a kick start from Pitocin/cervadil or not. My labor with DD didn't feel any different than my labor with DS, which occured all on its own.

  • I know it's a scary thought, but hang in there. I was scheduled to be induced w/ DD 5 days after her EDD and my water broke early in the morning the day before the appointment. Ironically, my contractions stopped after my water broke, so I had to be on pitocin anyway- it went totally fine and I had a wonderful labor and had DD vaginally. The nurses were fantastic about keeping an eye on the contractions to make sure they weren't coming too close together. GL to you, and know that it's totally possible to have a great birthing experience even if you're induced.

  • Thinking of you...I'm dealing with the same thing right now.  It is scary and kinda exciting, but mostly overwhelming!
