TTC After a Loss

Can birth control affect fertility?

Does anyone know if there are any side effects and/or difficulty conceiving after coming off BC? My DH was told by his aunt that women who become pregnant after bc are more likely to m/c? I'm like "whaaat?" Has anyone else heard this?

  • I  don't know....but would like to know if anyone has any info....

With my last pregnancy, I had been off the pill less than 3 weeks when I conceived. It ended in a BO, so I'm wondering if there is a connection. Although my bff went off the pill and got KU the next month and is due any day now?!?

    hmmm, curious?

  • It kinda depends.  For most women, coming off of bcp can take you longer to get pg.  However, for ladies like myself that have PCOS, the first month off of bcp is your highest likelyhood of concieving, since the bcp still have your hormones in check.

  • I will let you know if I have luck this cycle. I quit taking my pills July 25th. Stay tuned.

but both times I got pg I was ON the pill but had missed a few several days and got KU. Obviously, both ended in MC though my dr. swears the BC had nothing to do with it???

  • I have asked my OB/GYN this question - there is no direct science showing that BC can decrease fertility or increase chances of miscarriage.  However, bc does decrease the thickness of the uterine lining and it is possible that in the first month after coming off, your lining might not be thick enough to support good implantation.  Which is why my OB recommends waiting one month after coming off bc to start TTC
  • Whattt?? No to the increased risk of m/c. It may take you a little longer to get pg if you start TTC the first month off bcp. Do you chart? Last month was my first month of bcp and I ovulated, but my CM was kinda wacky. They say it takes some women 3 months or so to regulate & start ovulating again.

  • I haven't read that it increases your risk of m/c, but have read that it can take some bc users longer to 'self-regulate' (cm/cycle length/hormones/lining/etc) - especially if they've been on bc for a long time!
