X-Post - Lap / Cramps Question (Slightly Long)

Good morning - hope everyone is doing well today!  I posted this over on GP but thought some of you may have some experience with this as well:

I have never had more than a few hours of aching cramps during my period prior to this past cycle - nothing major.  I had a lap for endo in the beginning of July.  The doc removed some adhesions on my left side.  I could feel exactly where he did his thing right after the surgery - it was very tender there.

This past cycle, I had horrible cramps with most of the pain concentrated around the area where the adhesions were removed.  I asked the doc if it could be related to the surgery - still healing, etc. - and he said it is probably just the endo.  This made no sense to me - I never had cramps before surgery and presumably the surgery removed the endo that I did have.  I know surgery won't cure endo but I didn't think it would CAUSE it either.  It seems pretty coincidental that the first time I have bad cramps is after surgery and in the exact spot of the adhesions.  Does this make sense to you?  I think my doctor is missing the point here.

I guess I will just have to see if I get the same cramps this cycle but it's so frustrating.  Oh, and he said the only really effective treatment for endo is 6 months of Lupron - unless that is my only option to help get me pregnant, I really don't want to do that!

Re: X-Post - Lap / Cramps Question (Slightly Long)

  • Hi -

I'm not sure what your doctor means, that is pretty odd.  I had my lap in March and the endo they zapped was pretty scattered.  I will say, though, that my period after the lap was pretty bad.  Heavier than usual and painful cramps.

I would wait to see how this cycle pans out and if the pain goes away.  It could be the post-surgical pains b/c things are still a little inflamed in there.

    Good luck!

  • Hi, gymnst.

I've not had a lap, but during my hysteroscopy, the doc removed a partial uterine septum. And my period two weeks later was extra crampy and (sorry for the TMI) extra clotty, too.

What your doc said is confusing to me, too! I would call back and get clarification.

  • My first one was horrible too. All of the literature they gave me said it would be worse than usual but I was still surprised at how bad it was. I had a blinding headache for a day and a half that made me throw up and I don't usually get one at all.

  • Thanks everyone!  Glad to have some hope that it may just be bad for a cycle or two.
