A friend of mine who is finishing up nursing school right now (I was a semester ahead of her) has been very helpful and encouraging to me through my m/c's this year. She is older and could be my mom...her oldest is 1 year younger than me! But she is more a friend than a mom figure to me. Through the past few months and sharing with her through these difficult times I've learned that she also had PCOS...apparently does not anymore (no symptoms anymore and cycles regularly--of course, now that she's done having kids!). She started having kids when she was my age--actually a little younger, and she had one successful pregnancy and then suffered a m/c with her 2nd pregnancy. She was then diagnosed with PCOS and went 4 years before having another child with the help of Clomid. The next 3 kids were also conceived with Clomid. Then she had another child without clomid and then identical twins (also without clomid). That's 8 kids! She is an encouragement to me because not only does she know what it feels like to go through a loss, but she suffered the same condition I am now faced with and went on to have 7 healthy babies after that, and the last 3 were without fertility help (although she did say it took longer to conceive each of them as her cycles were irregular due to PCOS).
It is hard to have hope right now as I have yet to have ONE successful pregnancy, but each day it gets better. I pray we all get to hold our own precious babies someday. If only we knew when that "someday" was it might be a little easier in the meantime...I honestly think I could go through anything if I just KNEW that I WOULD have a healthy baby to love and raise someday.
Just thought I'd share her story. Hopefully it encourage someone else as well!
