High-Risk Pregnancy

Another GD question(sorry)

How long did it take before you were put on a diet and started testing?

Last week I was told I have GD. My Dr. said I was over 200 and left it at that.

I was told I would be getting a call from the hospital for a class.

No diet, no testing levels, nothing.

I did look up the diet online and am trying to follow it, but I still haven't heard from my Dr. or the hospital.

Re: Another GD question(sorry)

  • I was called by the diabetes center the day after I was told I failed the glucose test. I met with them and started the diet 3-4 days later (and testing). A week after that I had a follow up w/ my OB when I was put on insulin.

  • I had the referral out to the diet program/nurse within 2 hours of finding out I failed my 3 hour, my appointment was set for one week later (which was today). We reviewed my numbers again at the appointment today and went over the diet, the meter, etc.

  • It was a couple weeks after my diagnosis that I was able to take the GD class.  I had picked up my glucose meter and testing supplies before then but I didn't start using them until the nurse showed us how in class.
  • basically until i got my meter i ate as i did before GD - i got my meter about a week after i failed the 3 hour test.  then a week after i got my meter and started the diet, they put me on insulin :-(

  • I was called the same day I was told I failed by the endo's office.  The endo's 1st appointment wasn't for two weeks.  I couldn't meet with the diabetes educator for a week.  I sought advice and a diet on here until I could go to those appointments.  I also had a spare glucometer (my dad's Type 2), so I started testing just to give myself an idea of where I was.

  • I didn't get to my class and get my glucometer until a week and a half after I was told.  I just started to listen to the advice on here and cut down on sugar and carbs.

  • I was diagnosed and got my meter the same day, although they never discussed diet or anything else with me until my appt a week later and I was put on meds before even seeing a nutritionist (1st appt next week) I have done "research" here mostly to change my diet in the meantime. The waiting game is so frustrating! Sorry.

  • OB told me if the hospital didn't call within 3 days to let them know and they'd make it happen. It took a week to get to the nutritionist - and even then she had to work me in when she had a cancelled appt because she was pretty booked.

OB gave me no info, diet, testing levels etc.
