Insomnia Remedies and Tricks?

Last few days I just cannot sleep.  I wake up at 3ish and lay there all night tossing and turning.  I use ear plugs and all that, but doesn't work.

Any advice/suggestions??  Anyone else suffering too?  I think the baby is training me for when she's here but mama needs her sleep!

  • I'm there with you. Almost every night I wake and can't fall back asleep for at least an hour.

Intstead of lying there (that just makes me more anxious), I go downstairs and watch tv until I feel sleepy again. Annoying, but it seems to work.?

  • Make sure the temp in your room is not too hot- that always makes it hard for me to sleep.

I also sleep with an electric fan and the noise is soothing to me and I find that when it's too quiet in the room that I can't stop thinking or shut my mind off.

    Good luck!

I agree I can't sleep if its too hot and it was 88 inside my house last night I turned on the A/C twice to get back to sleep.

  • im sooo uncomfterable, sleeping is really hard for me. I drive DH crazy tossing and turning all night. Believe it or not, when I told my DR. about this she suggested I take benedryl. She said dont make a habit of it, but it is important that I get some sleep to be able to function.
    Expecting #3 next spring!
  • AC on 69, DH on the air mattress(his choice not mine), air purifier turned up, and an occasional tylenol PM if it gets really bad...oh..and sex before bed helps too... although I usually can't walk the next day..lol

  • This has been so frustrating for me too!  Thanks for posting this - I have been totally exhausted but it still takes me 4 hours to fall asleep at night.  Then I wake up to pee and it starts all over.  ugh.  I'm thinking about asking the doc if unisom is ok - they recommended it for nausea, so I'm thinking it'd be fine for a sleep aid too...Not sure though.  Just an idea to ask the doctor about.
  • Ugh...this was my night last night...

It started out at 3:30 with me waking up to a charle-horse style cramp in the lower gut area.  That lasted for a couple minutes so I got up to pee and then fell back asleep and then woke up feeling hot and sweaty, threw the blankets off I then woke up shivering.  Laid there for about 20 minutes thinking about random dumb stuff while listening to my husband's loud breathing and finally told him to roll over, he was driving me nuts.  Fell asleep but was soon awoken by my husband's elbow which hit me in the eye.  His elbow was on my pillow because he was now sleeping in the middle of the bed.  His body heat was also causing me to start over-heating again....threw off the blankets.  5am rolls around and I wake up to the baby kicking me HARD in the ribs. She was on fire and was moving like crazy.  6am and the dogs randomly start barking at something outside.  7:30 my husband's alarm goes off.

It was a shitty nights sleep, I'm planning on taking a nap soon.

  • We have the ceiling fan on, AC turned down, cool mist humidifier going.

I'm running on fumes.  I need a nap so bad!

  • This happens to me too. If I am laying awake for more than half an hour I just have to get up and go read or watch tv. The longer I lay awake the more frustrated I get and then I definitely can't get back to sleep. I can usually fall back asleep for a few hours if I get out of bed and stop my mind from running.
