TTC After a Loss

NBR: Follow up to my insurance post

I think I'm going to go with BCBS, but in addition to the cost per pay period, DH's employer charges a $50 surcharge for a spouse, if they're eligible for coverage under their own employer, but choose not to go with it.  So, would you pay the extra $50 per pay period, but be comforted knowing that fertility services, IUI and IVF is covered to some extent?  Or stay on my own employers healthcare coverage, with 100% fertility testing covered (just up to diagnosis)?  In the long run it might be worth paying that extra $100 per month, in case we would need IUI or IVF.

Re: NBR: Follow up to my insurance post

  • BCBS will be better all around...especially when you get pregnant, have the baby and then put the baby on your insurance.  If you read my nightmare story about Aetna below you'll see why.  Peace of mind knowing you're covered and won't have to argue with insurance people is absolutely worth every penny!

  • $100 does seem like a lot, but I've enjoyed BCBS for all of my non-baby related needs as well. So I would say go for it. If you ever do need fertility treatments, it'll be worth the extra money.

  • I have BCBS (I'm self insured), and there is something to peace of mind knowing it is all covered. Are there other co-pays for you in addition to extra $50/$100 month? Could you join that once you are at point of thinking more seriously of fertility treatments?

I do like BCBS though, and their coverage has been great. when i looked into all of the potential coverage for baby to be (before m/c obviously), it was great, and well worth the money.
