So Ticked at DF and his dad (vent long)

Ok.. so this past Sturday was my shower and all was good in my house. My DF works for his uncle's trucking company and his dads when he needs help. Well he dosent make great money but it is beter then not working. So since about May I knew that my contract with my job would not be being renewed and with the field I am in and the economy finding a new jb wuold be tough while pregnant. So DF and I had talked numerous times about me staying home and him going to wk for his dad full time making plenty of money above what we would need to pay bill and live.

Well this has turned into the perfect storm. His brother who also works for his dad full-time got into a very serious accident and is now in a wheelchair and working juast to be able to walk again. It is very sad and has been at times so heart breaking. However, when it irsty happened the plan was for DF to take over his brothers job and go full-time with his dad. Well this has not happened and now his hrs are being cut a little everyday at his uncles company. Which is crappy since as of September 4th I am with out a job

the way things are going we are taking a 60k hit in our salaries with me losing my contract. Well Df worked about 10 hrs for his dad the week before last and on Saturday DF still had not givrn me the check from his dad for those hours and I was counting on it when paying bills. DF then procedds to tell me well he is just going to pay him for 40hr a week weather he works or not and put the money in their checking acct. yes he and his dad have an acct togther still!!! he said its not a problem and anytime we want some money all we have to do is ask and he will right us a check!!!!

WTF!!! I have lived on my own since I was 17 and am having the worst time comprehending (sp) this whole idea. I feel like his dad is trying in one way or another to keep control of DF and I am pissed about it and he cant see why.... I love his dad and his family has been great to us but I think this is out of control. Sorry I just had to get this out!!

How annoying.  This is something that my DH would probably do, and I would end up having to work very hard to make him see that it's not an appropriate situation.  Good luck!

that sounds silly.  if he is on the account, he should be able to get the money out without having to go through his dad, especially if it is a paycheck.

i don't think it is bizarre that they have a joint account.  i am on both my parents' accounts and my dad is still on my account from back home.  to each their own, i guess.

These types of reasons are why I don't think I could ever be a part of a family business.  Money and loved ones just don't mix.  I would try talking to your FI to ensure that he is able to deposit enough money in your (and in yours and his, not his and his dad's) account to pay your bills every month.  You should not have to stress about whether or not you'll be able to pay the bills each month and your FFIL should not know more about your household's financial picture than you do.
