2nd Trimester

Low Lying Placenta?

I had a doctor's appointment today and she was reviewing my ultrasound results and they show that I have a low lying placenta.  I'm scheduled for another ultrasound to see if it has moved, but its not until Oct. 6th.  Has anyone else had this?

Re: Low Lying Placenta?

  • It's pretty common and something like 98% of them move up as the uterus continues to grow.  I won't get my follow up u/s to check the position until 36 weeks, when she will also check to see if LO is head down.

  • I actually just heard the same thing. My ultrasound will be in about 4 weeks. I posted a little bit ago about it.
  • Yep, the doc saw it on my 19w u/s. I was kind of relieved to know what was going on, because I've had spotting off and on the entire pregnancy so far, and the doc said this is most likely causing it.
  • I have the same issue, I'll be back in to check things out at 32 weeks.

  • I didn't have this at my 20 wk u/s but they did find it at my 23 wk u/s.  The Dr. said it is normal and that at my 26 wk u/s that think it will have moved up again and not to worry at all.  We go every 3 wks because of twins.

  • I just found out I have this too. The tech said it's very common and will usually raise later in pregnancy. They can't do anything about it until 30-32 weeks she also said.  If it is still a problem then, a C section is likely b/c you can't birth the placenta first.  Not ideal, but not the end of the world either.  Hang in there!
  • I have this as well. I have U/S scheduled for next Tuesday to check up on the placenta and the baby. My doctor told me it was very common.
