3rd Trimester

Need opinions on some things (help)

Preface: dh is army and we are due to pcs in NOV. to Korea (just found out today).

Now with that said, we have not gotten a crib yet, but we do have bedding and such. Should we get a crib before we go or just get a pack and play with a changing table option and just get a crib there. The baby will be about 1 month old give or take a week.  Should I just take the bedding back, or ship it. I am so confused as to what to do, you ladies have always been a big help.

Re: Need opinions on some things (help)

  • I would hold off on the crib, and minimize the bedding.

  • I'm personally more comfortable with the US safety standards, so I would buy a crib here and bring it with you.
  • Is it really expensive to move with you?  Do you love the pattern?  If these are No and Yes then I say keep the bedding.  For the crib I would use something portable for now maybe get a co-sleeper until you move.  We are going to use a co-sleeper anyway because it will be easier for breast feeding for the first few months.
  • I would just go with the pack n play and get a crib later....if you love the bedding keep it!

    Good luck with the move!

  • Does the Army pay for you to ship your stuff? If not...it is REALLY expensive to do... I lived in Thailand for a year, and we found it was easier and cheaper to just buy all new stuff when we got there...

    i agree with this

  • I think I am more concered about getting a crib and it getting broken on the way over. The army will move it, but something always ends up broken

Don't worry about this: it's Korea, not Timbucktu... you can get many of the exact same brands over there as you can here; not to mention, the military store (BX, PX)!

And helpful hint: JCPenny will deliver within two weeks to any military address in the world.  I don't know how they do it, but I grew up in Japan as a military kid (Navy) and they never ONCE were late in all our years there.  My mom swore by them!

Enjoy Korea!  I've been to visit a few of the bases there, and while it certainly is VERY different, there are many wonderful charming things. I've always had great experiences. I would love to go back!
