Car Seat Inspection?

I had every intention of getting our car seat inspected prior to putting the baby in it.  Well, DH and I put the car seat and bases in both vehicles last night and now DH doesn't think the inspection is necessary.  I tend to agree with him since the directions were really straight forward and both bases seem really secure.  However, I tend to be a bit of a worry wart and now I'm feeling a little guilty about not getting it checked out. 

Did you get yours inspected prior to putting the baby in it?

I made an appointment to get mine inspected at the local AAA office tomorrow morning. It's free, and it won't take long so IMO it's definitely worth it. Everyone says how easy they are to install if you just follow the directions, and my DH is very handy but I want it inspected for peace of mind. HTH!

I don't know how accurate the data is, but the instructor at our BFing class said something like 95% of car seats aren't installed properly by parents. I covered a car seat inspection for the local newspaper once (it was summer...news was slow) and every single parent failed, even when the seat seemed secure.

I know BRU offers car seat checks at least one or twice a month and your local police department might do inspections as well. I'm actually looking at our township police website now to find out what we need to do to get the seat inspected when the time comes. I figure better safe then sorry.

We had it inspected, but have moved it since, and we did fine. You should not be able to rock it more than an inch, and make sure that the seat sits level. Some will have a line to see that it is parallel to the seat. If you followed the directions, it is not a big deal. You can have it checked at the police station. It is a quick process, and if it gives you piece of mind, go for it.

My DH just got done getting our cars inspected.  It only took him a few minutes and gives me the piece of mind to know that they are put in correctly otherwise I would constantly worry about it.  Plus it's free at the hospital we will deliver at.

yes, and I have an appointment to get the new advocate installed, too. It just makes sense.

DH felt the same way. He was so confident in his skills, but I've heard so many horror stories of them not being in right, that I wanted it checked.  We went to our police station sunday and got it checked out and it passed.  DH felt good and I felt much better!
