I realized the other day I have no idea where I could go to get measured for a nursing bra. I've always been a small A so I just buy off the rack at Macys once a year when they're having their holiday sales. I can't imagine asking a sales person there for help...do they even do measuring in department stores or do you have to go to a specialty store?
I assume when my milk comes in I'll actually have some boobs, but I can't imagine there's any way to know that ahead of time how big they'll actually get. I doubt I'll want to lug a newborn out so I can buy bras. I'm considering not wearing nursing bras and just getting those nursing tanks, but since I have no experience with big boobs I don't know how comfortable that'll be. And the lactation consultant at the BFing class recommended wearing nursing bras to bed for the support...ugh! Any tips? Thanks!
Re: Getting measured for nursing bras?
Get some 'sleep' style bras or tanks from motherhood or target to start with. Just 1 or 2 will be plenty to hold you over. Once your milk is in then go get fitted. Motherhood has good bras for smaller gals so I'd try there, or any good department store should have a fitter.
I am huge and wear tanks to sleep in and wore them in the hospital, but have 'real' nursing bras for work, etc.
Ditto about post.
Get properly fitted, when you are at your fullest and spend the money on a good nursing bra. It makes a huge difference. I went to get fitted when DS was 2 weeks old, DH sat in the truck with DS who had been asleep for a couple hours and would soon wake up hungry. I went in told the saleswoman what I needed, that I would soon have a hungry crying baby following me with a distressed looking man and she rushed me into a dressing room.
Thanks for the tip about the sleep bras...that should work.
For the fitting, did you go to a department store or a specialty store? I've only seen younger people working at places like Macys and they'd probably look at me like I was insane if I asked about being fitted. I assume they have nursing bras, although I've never seen them (wasn't looking either). Something to scope out now, I guess.
