3rd Trimester

Clicky poll: lunchmeat...call it a 1st tri throwback

I know we have all responded 1000000 times to lunchmeat questions and most of us will say "go ahead it will be fine."  I for one know it will be ok, but still have small freak outs about it since listeria doesn't always present symptoms, but can be quite serious.

Re: Clicky poll: lunchmeat...call it a 1st tri throwback

  • At home, I toast the bread but not the meat, but at Subway, I get the whole thing toasted...so it's a toss up, depending on where I am.

  • I only eat it every once in a while, because that's not something I eat frequently anyways, But a turkey sammy sounds good for lunch!
  • I just had a Subway turkey sandwich yesterday.  YUM!

  • I ate it a bunch in 2nd tri- then my man got wind of the listeria problems and nixed the whole thing. I figure you pick and choose your battles- it hasn't that big of a deal not eating lunch meat.
  • I eat it every now and then...I think I am more concerned with sodium & nitrate levels than listeria.

  • I was more careful at the beginning.  Now I have it once in a while.  I was actually thinking of getting a sandwich today.  My dr said that if there was contaminated meat out there we would all know about it because it would be like the peanut butter scare.

  • LOL at "on special occasions" --- I know you meant occasionally, but I was thinking of lunchmeat being a special occasion food and it made me laugh.

  • I don't like the way cold lunchmeat tastes. That said I love Quiznos and Subway

  • At home, it's cold.

Somewhere like Subway, where the meat sits out all day?  Toasted, baby.

  • I have no problem eating lunchmeat cold.  That said, I only eat it occasionally because I only eat it when I want it.  I don't save it for "special occasions" or anything though, it just happens to be occasionally that I want a good sandwhich.

  • My Subway was especially delicious yesterday.
  • I voted "special occassions" because I definitely don't eat it once or twice a week, but I let myself have it whenever I want it.

  • You do know that this only pertains to DELI meat and not to prepackaged meats.
  • Never. I got food poisoning during first tri right before the sprouts recall, and I will not mess with questionable food again.

Americanpregnancy.org say hotdogs, luncheon meat, and deli meat.  Isn't luncheon meat pre-packaged?

  • I voted never... I'm a vegetarian!!
  • Yes but rarely. Not because I am afraid of my child coming out green but because I'm not a huge lunch meat fan.

  • i eat deli chicken sandwiches about once a week- in fact i am eating one as i type this :)
  • when i go to subway its always toasted.  i like my meat from the deli so i suck it up and nuke it real quick.
  • I literally ate it EVERYDAY with my first pregnancy and so far the same with this one.
  • I was eating lots of sammiches, but my feet blew up so I had to cut back on the sodium.

    I love lunch meat.

    Not true.

I'm one of the "never" people.  I also abstain from soft serve ice cream.  Mock away!  lol.  It's just not that difficult for me to not eat it, and not worth the risk.

  • I think I was more cautious in the first tri. Now I probably have prepackaged lunchmeat maybe once a month or so. Not often. Some of my mommy friends even make fun of me for that since they all ate lunchmeat well throughout their pregnancy.
  • I work for the FDA and you would all be very surprised by the things that are found in firms, especially concerning deli meats.  Maybe because it's my line of work, but there's no deli meat in my diet....
