Donating old furniture

Was curious if people have suggestions of places that will pick up furniture for donation.  I've already tried Salvation Army, but they will only come on Thursdays to pick up stuff in my town.  Ideally I would rather not take a day off of work to donate my furniture.

If anyone has any suggestions of other places to try, I would appreciate it.  DH and I are moving in two weeks and trying to get rid of furniture that we will not have room for in the new place.

  • I know here in MA many local chruches will pick stuff up, as will the boys and girls clubs.

Also many state agencies have a mechanism for that, like Department of Children and Families or Department of Mental Health. They often take donations in order to give to their families in need. GL

  • You can offer it on freecycle.org (maybe .com). You might be able to sell it on Craigslist or you can offer it for free. Salvation Army might also come after work to pick it up or you can take it one evening.
  • Freecycle is great.

I've found in our area if you set it out on the curb on trash day or the day before people will just take it. We set our 20+ year old horrible stove out for the trash (we called them first for "large item" pickup) and low and behold some old man came by and loaded the whole thing in his pickup truck and took off with it all by himself.

  • I've put stuff on Craiglist for FREE - it's always the fastest of my items to go, no matter what it is! Just have them come to you and pick it up.
