any experience with pink eye?

ughhh! I think I have it. my right eye is completely red (feels swollen,) itchy and a bit runny (crusty when I wake up.)

I can't get to the doctors until next week. any thoughts on treatment? relief? I am washing my hands every 5 minutes so I don't infect ginny (if it is indeed a virus.) the inside of my nose is also itchy and feels swollen. it kinda hurts actually! what the hEll?!

Re: any experience with pink eye?

  • Walgreens sells homeopathic drops that might help. I cannot for the life of me remember their name but maybe you can google it. Is there any way you could get to an urgent care?
It took over four years to be diagnosed with PCOS. We TTC #1 for 18 months, did 5 rounds of Clomid and finally moved onto IVF...which worked! Throughout our IF journey, we suffered 3 miscarriages. We conceived both DD and DS without treatment.

  • too many times (thank you daycare!).  Usually DD gets it then I catch it from her.

Do you bf? breastmilk in the eye is the quickest way to heal it until you get drops from your doctor. Just don't touch ANYTHING you don't have to...and keep washing your hands a ton, etc.

  • Do you wear contacts?  Don't wear them any more until it is cleared up.  Did you tell the office that you think you have pink eye?  Did you call your eye doctor or regular MD?  Whichever can;t see you, I'd try the other one to see if thet could.  The couple of times I have had it, there's no way I could have went that long without the antibiotic drops.  Antihistamines (Benadryl, Claritin) will help with the itching, but you need prescription drops otherwise.

  • Sometimes I get pink eye when I get sick.  You'll need drops to get rid of it.  Anyway that you could run to some kind of doc or even call your PCP and see if they can write you a script?

If you wear contacts, don't wear them until 1 week after you're not crusty/runny.  You should also discard any eye make up that you've used while you're infected.

  • Sounds like it could be, but without seeing it, I have no clue.  There are two types of pink eye...the infectious type and an allergic type.  Perhaps with the nose issues it is the allergic variety.  I would call the doc and let them know what is going on and that you have a toddler at home.  You should not have to wait a week for treatment.  Lysol everything in your house...counters, door knobs, toilet handles, faucet handles.  If it is infectious, you would want to get rid of any eye makeup or brushes you use to apply that makeup.
  • oh MAN!

I have crazy deadlines with 2 clients so I can't even begin looking for a doctor until the end of this week. (one project is a MAJOR soda company so I cannot take any time off.)

dh is working the night shift so I haven't even seen him in days. if left untreated could something seriously wrong happen with my eye? the itchy nose is kind of freaking me out as well. all I can think of is INFECTION -- all over.

This.  My dr. won't even see patient's with pink-eye unless they've had it longer than a week, but each dr. is different.  Warm washclothes on your eye will help alot.  Make sure you aren't touching or rubbing your eye and then touching anything else.  And, like PP's have said, wash your hands ALOT!  GL!!!

  • Do you have a CVS or Walgreens nearby? CVS has the Minute Clinic and Walgreens has Take Care. You can go on your lunch break because it is really quick in and out. DH got eye drops at the Minute Clinic before. Good luck!!!!!

That is so odd to me.  I am a school nurse and every doc I have ever had contact with treats it right away, even my own doc.  Can you call the doc and ask them to call in a script????  I know my doc will do that when I have pink eye.  I hope it passes quickly

  • the issue is I don't have a PCP yet (we just moved and our insurance kicked in about 1 week ago. I know. I know...)

in the meantime I'll check out the minute clinic at cvs (if I can find one.)

    thanks!

wash hands. wash hands. wash hands...!

  • Hi there...I seemed to have pink eye once a year for some reason...every summer I'd get it and visit the local Eye Hospital (it's one of the of the top in the US)...each time they would tell me the same thing.  Pink Eye is a VIRUS....therefore, you do not take an antibiotic to treat a virus.  Unfortunately, a virus needs to run its course (like a cold) and it'll commonly spread to your other eye.  But it is contagious so you should lay low and wash your hands etc.  The only drops that you should be using are those natural tears...never use anti-redness/visine!  Good luck!  Mine was always gone within 3 days...
  • All the time thanks to daycare and my daughter.

Call dr and get drops.  The drops work pretty quickly.

  • Call your dr. and see if they can call you in an RX for Tobramycin We don't bring it in office b/c is is so contagious
