3rd Trimester

For those of you who are not working right now, but without a baby or other child...

What do you do all day long?  My Dh works out of town M-F so I'm home alone all week. I was teaching and will not return when school starts (in two weeks) and I feel like I've exhausted my options of what to do.  I mean I still have some books I'm reading, but other than that I get really lonely and bored.  Our family does not live near us and we are on a tight budget so shopping isn't an option.

Nursery is done, house is cleaned every week, and I keep up with it during the week, it's hotter than hades right now so sitting by the pool doesnt last long and I cant walk the dogs during the day for the same reason...

Just curious what others do if you're in a similar situation.

  • This is my first week off - but this week I am: writing shower thank you notes, packing my hospital bag, washing baby clothes (and I still have to get the nursery organized - we just moved to a house from an apartment a few weeks ago).

I am also watching a lot of TV, reading, and cooking meals to freeze for after the baby gets here.

  • Could you volunteer for a local charity or something like that?  I'm an animal person and I volunteer at one of our local animal shelters every now and then.  I know you're 34 weeks and all, but maybe there's something you could do that involves sitting somewhere  :)

  • Some days I just hang out and watch TV and bump.  Other days I clean or do laundry.  I am taking 6 credit hours this semester (online) so I get to start doing school work in 2 weeks!

  • I'm on my maternity leave, but just waiting for the baby to get here.  I read a lot and bump and FB quite a bit.  Somehow, the computer time gets to quite a time-suck!  I still have a few projects that I can do around the house, like finishing up my wedding scrapbook, or working on my pregnancy journal.  I'm not much a of TV watcher, but I do love movies, so I'm watching a lot those.  And, I take two naps a day. LOL.   Good luck keeping busy!

  • Wow, it's like you just described my exact situation. I'm also a teacher who won't be returning when school starts and all of our family is 6+ hours away. I actually have tried to space out my to-do list as much as possible to keep me busy, but I've recently had a couple of those days where my energy is limitless, so my list is almost done.

Here are some things that I'm planning on doing when I can't think of anything else: visit the library to stock up on all sorts of books, get supplies to start making the baby announcements (we're also on a tight budget, but in the long run this will save a lot of money!) and if it comes down to it...I'm going to reread the Twilight series. That will ensure that I stay occupied for a bit. :) Good luck!

  • I have been doing a lot of baking, and sending it with DH to work!  I also meal plan, read too many romance novels, watch tv, take walks around the neighborhood, catch up with my sisters and friends on the phone and play with the dogs.

Just the other day I dusted the walls!  It can get pretty boring especially with DH at work and I too live days away from any family or friends.  GL!

  • I wish I had nothing to do!  :)

That's what I thought until I had nothing to do!  I guess the grass is always greener huh?

  • I am all done now too and off work. ?I still have to finish the rest of the dang TY notes. Today!

I am pretty much too tired/uncomfortable/miserable to do much. ?I was up from 2-5 this morning twiddling my thumbs so now I feel wasted and will probably go back to sleep.

I have lots of sewing projects (you can see how I've been keeping busy in my blog)I read books, do games on FB (Farm town is my new obsession, plus I have old college friends on it, so I get to chat with them), I watch TV (Right now I am watching "Drop Dead Diva" online. ?It is really cute and they have all the episodes available at lifetime.com.

I go to the grocery store and pick up food for dinner each day. ?I had been lunching or visiting with friends, but I just want to be a hermit anymore.?

I am just trying to enjoy the last few babyless weeks, but it is hard!?

  • for me it sucks, I have so much to do and I can't leave the house because we have people working here finishing our basement...we started the 3rd week of july (after being delayed 2 weeks) and then we had another 2 weeks of non work waiting for the electrician.  Now i have been trapped since last wednesday.... AND TO TOP IT OFF Saturday was my Bday and we were going to go down the shore for the night, but the guy said he wanted to work Sunday.... We couldn't say no beacause we needed him to keep the job running, so I had a shitty birthday!

  • For me it's totally boring.  I moved to Canada (from FL) with my DH in Feb and didn't have a work visa.  That's also when I found out I was PG.  So, for the first few months I was studying for the CPA exam and that kept me quite busy.  Now I'm waiting to start an online MBA program in Oct.  I've invested in lots of tv series dvds.  We bought the 1-4 seasons of Lost, the entire series of West Wing and I just watched Season 2 of Mad Men.

There's only so much baby research and surfing you can do.  Good luck finding things to occupy your time...let me know if you come up with something interesting!
