Could migraine headache be sign of pre-e?

I have had the worst headache since last night, and it feels like a migraine. I used to get migraines a lot before I was pregnant, and also in the summer from the heat. We are in a serious heat wave right now so at first I thought it was just from that.

I am getting worried that this could be a sign of pre-e though, and I'm wondering if I should call my dr.? My blood pressure and urine have been fine the whole pregnancy, and I just had an appt last week and they were still fine.

The only reason I am hesitant to call is because of my history with migraines. What do you ladies think I should do?

Re: Could migraine headache be sign of pre-e?

  • I would call.  Pre-e can come on suddenly.  I had a migraine a couple weeks ago and don't have pre-e, but I definitely brought it up to be sure.  Do you have any sudden swelling in your face, hands, or feet?  I think that can be another sign.  GL!

Migraines stink - hope you don't have any more before you deliver!

  • Yes!! Please call your ob. I ignored my headaches for WEEKS thinking they were migraines. Turned out my bp was 190/116.
  • With your history of migraines, I'd say probably not unless you're showing other signs (blurred vision, sudden swelling in your face or hands, etc). BUT, and that's a big BUT, its nothing to play around with so I would still call your OB to let them know just in case they want to see you.?

    Good Luck. ?

  • call them.  they'll probably just ask you to come in for a bp check, but just to be sure, call them!
  • It may not be pre-e but you should call to be on the safe side.  Drink lot of water because if it is hot and your are running low and fluid that could be part of the reason you have a headache.
  • Thanks ladies, I will definitely call. I don't have any sudden swelling in my face or hands, but my feet have been swollen for weeks. I will call right now just to be on the safe side.
  • I had a migraine that was KILLER a few weeks ago and like you, had not had them since pre-preg, have good blood pressure, good urine, etc.

What we self-diagnosed was the headache was related to either the weather or to hormone influx (migraines do both!). What COULD happen for you is this might be jumpstarting your labour? if so, lucky you!!! :) If not... sorry! I'm in the same overdue boat as you.

I wouldn't call unless it is making you very dehydrated, as you may need an IV drip to help your headache go away... (like if the migraine is causing vomiting, etc.)

Oooh I like the idea that it could be a labor sign! I didn't think of that! But you are right, migraines are tied to weather and hormones.

How are you doing, my very overdue friend? I saw your post about your MW not giving you a date yet for induction, just a window. When is your next appt?
