30-31 to 29 but when pressure was applied it went to 27 so dr. wants me
off my feet
Re: ~~Bed Rest Mama's Tuesday Check In!~~
Update: All is well. The appointment, although LONG was great yesterday. The prob with seeing high risk docs is that everyone else is high risk too and things obviously come up. My appointment was at 4 and I was not seen till 5:30.... My BP was up there but when I showed her my readings from the week she agreed it was from sitting there waiting so long.... Go back next week and will do another 24 hr urine and lab work. Thinking I really may make it in this pregnancy!
QOTD: What is your opinion on the following: circumsion, vaccines, cloth diapers - and anything else baby related you want to weigh in on....
I have no strong feelings on any of this. I circumsized DS, followed the traditional vaccine schedule and I use disposalable diapers. I do feel bad adding thousands of diapers to the landfills but I am just not a cloth diaper kinda gal....
Update: The A/C is fixed! The dude showed up an hour late, but it is fixed. So nice to get a good night's sleep. Except for the contractions that kept me up, but those are becoming a routine.
QOTD: I didn't care about circumcision, but if it's a boy, DH wants it done. So we're doing it. We're doing all the vaccines. I'm a doctor, and I think they're important. I know everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I just don't get that one. And we're using disposable diapers. We discussed cloth, but decided they weren't for us. SIL uses them-- and good for her. But we're just not cool like that. My stepdad is pissed at us for not using glass bottles for after I start pumping. But if he knew how often we drop stuff, he'd agree that the BPA-free plastic are a better fit. Plus I don't think the daycares will take glass. We're using a crib bumper. It has ties on the top and bottom, so I'm happy with it. We'll take it out when kiddo gets more mobile. We also have a preemie head/body positioner for the carseat. This particular one was recommended by the AAP, so I am extremely happy with it. I don't care if the carseat people don't like it. I don't want my IUGR preemie slumping down and getting squished. We are not co-sleeping. I work too much and am too tired without a baby in my life to even contemplate this. The baby will be in the crib from day 1. We're using a pacifier, but DH and I haven't figured out just how. Everything I've read says not to use it for sleep and not to use them after 6 months because of the increase risk of ear infections. DH wants to use them for sleep, but we haven't really discussed this. He hasn't read much so.... We can't have much of a discussion. The problem with not using a pacifier past 6 months is they tend to suck on something else and I do not want a thumb sucker! DH sucked his thumb for years as a kid and doesn't want that hassle. There's just so much to think about!
No updates...BPP and NST tomorrow, we'll see if my amniotic fluid is under 5, if so I'm being admitted.
QOTD-We are circ-ing. I went back and forth on the vaccine thing and decided I just don't have the energy to thoroughly research every injection and then deal with the legalities of trying to get LO in school without doing them. My SIL firmly believes that they can cause autism, so she isn't doing any of them. She had a hard time finding a pedi who supported her. I have a very good friend who CD's, so I looked into it...its very expensive to start doing, DH didn't want to do it, and since we have multiple people who will be watching LO who have never CD'd, we decided to do disposables.
Update: So yesterday morning I started having contractions 10 mins apart and by mid-afternoon they were about 8 mins apart and my BP was 145/95. I am not sure why I was being stubborn about not calling my OB, but I think I had a moment where I just became overwhelmed with the idea that I was actually going to have a second child. I know that is absolutely ridiculous but I had a quick moment of panic. My OB sent me directly to L&D and when I got there my BP was 150/100 and I was having contractions 6 mins apart. The OB on call felt that if my BP did not go down then they would be doing a c/s later that evening. Luckily my BP went down to 135/85 while I was on my left side and I was given two doses of Turbataline, which stopped the contractions. I didn't like the way it made me felt (shaking and jittery) but I am very thankful that it stopped the contractions because LO needs to bake a little longer. I think if I was a few days closer to the 37 wk mark the OB would have just done the c/s since I am schedule for one in 2 1/2 wks. They are going to reevaluate my c/s date when I go back in on Thursday.
QOTD: I never really had an opinion about circumcisions but my husband felt pretty strongly for it so we had one done for DS and will have one for LO too. We will do disposable diapers instead of cloth diapers and will use bottles with the drop-in liners for breastmilk and formula. If LO likes the pacifier than we will use them and then make a decision based how much he uses it on when to stop. DS always spit them out right before falling asleep so we ended up keeping it until 17 months. We just made it disappear one day and he never looked for them again. He spoke early though so we never had to worry about it holding back his speech or anything delays like that. I figure we will play it by ear with LO and decide what is the best for him.
I posted this on the Monday check-in earlier, but I guess I didn't do it soon enough
Can you please add me to the list?
Name: Mandy (mandyunc2003)
EDD: 11/10 (more realistically, 10/13-10/27 since it's di-di b/g twins)
Type of BR: Strict! Allowed to get up for restroom breaks and meals only.
Since when: 8/6 (26w 2d)
Reason: Went from 3.7cm to 2.4cm within 3 weeks, and Baby A (girl) is only in the 9th percentile for weight (1 lb 11 oz). Baby B is doing great and checked in at 2 lbs (45th percentile), so I'm ordered to eat every 3 hours and make it fattening
After the initial MFM appointment last Thursday, I was monitoring for contractions at home (starting Saturday) and had 9 in 45 minutes, so I had my first trip to L&D that night. They released me on Sunday morning after finally miniimizing the contractions to about 1-2/hr, but I'm on both a Terbutaline pump and Procardia to keep the babies in as long as possible. I went back to the MFM yesterday, and luckily my cervix had not shortened through the whole ordeal. *Fingers crossed* that I make it to at least 36 weeks, and reading about some of you has given me hope!
Could I be added to this list? I don't know how long I'll be on bed rest, but I'm here for now...
Name: Erica (ericacathryn)
EDD: 1/29/2010
Type of BR: Modified, but this was explained as only getting up for meals and bathroom breaks.
Since when: 8/5
Reason: Subchorionic hematoma that keeps getting bigger. They first saw it when I was nine weeks and spotting lightly, and they said it was so small that they weren't at all worried about it. The spotting went away. Then two and a half weeks ago I woke up to a huge gush of blood. The ultrasound at the ER showed that the hematoma had grown to 7cm x 4cm x 3cm. They didn't put me on bed rest, just told me to take it easy. I kept bleeding, but mostly brown, then last Wednesday I went back because the blood seemed to be increasing and heading back to red. The hematoma had grown to 10cm x 5cm x 3cm. They put me on modified bed rest until my follow up this week. My ultrasound this morning showed more growth, though they didn't tell me how much. There was no doctor in the office so I have to go back tomorrow to actually speak to the doctor in person. I'll know more about how long this bedrest will last after speaking to him, I hope.
I have a 14 month old, so bedrest isn't easy. My husband is doing everything for him. I was just sitting as much as possible until today, but over the weekend I went to a good friend's wedding. I sat the whole time, wherever I was, but the nurse wasn't pleased with that and I sort of regret it now. She told me I have to actually lie down - not just sit, so that's what I'm doing. Everything I've read says that it's not proven that bed rest helps with SCH though, so I guess I figured as long as I was resting I was doing what I needed to do. I'm taking it more seriously now. I'll only be 16 weeks on Saturday, and I'm really hoping that I won't have to be on bed rest the whole pregnancy. We rely on my paycheck, so I'd have to find a way to work from bed, and I think my husband will go crazy without help with our son. Why can't pregnancy just be easy???
I would like to be added.
