I got an FFN test today and if it comes back positive the dr wants to give me a steroid shot for the baby's lungs. ?I am 1cm dilated and my cervix is soft, when they hooked me up the fetal monitoring machine I was having contractions about 15 mins apart, but I couldn't even feel them.Does anyone know about these steroid shots? ?I know that they help the lungs, but are there any known side effects??

Re: steroid shots for LO's lungs
ive been on IV steriods, injections and now oral doses for a few weeks now b/c of my asthma....was worried abt baby and effects on him but MD's assured me, the steriods can only help the baby now with lung development and will not cause any other side effects......
hope that helps!
I had them at 31 weeks because I had a shortened cervix and was 1cm dilated. I didn't have any side effects and DD managed to hang on until 34w6d so hopefully your LO will do the same!
Good luck! I hope the FFN is negative.
i also had them at 27 weeks3 days and dd was born 27 weeks 5 days. i recieved them both in my tusshy and a day apart. They didnt really hurt but I truly believe that they helped DD's lungs. she was intubated regardless bc she was so tiny but for the fist 5 hrs she was breathing on her own.
I had them too on Monday and Tuesday for LO.
The NICU doctor was so excited that I was able to get them and she was still hatching.. ha ha ?They told me that it takes about 48 hours from the LAST shot for them to be about 80% effective, a week for total.. and that she might need to be tubed, but it wouldn't be for nearly as long as the same baby without the shots.
Everything I've heard about them has been super positive. ?I didnt really have time to think about it, but I would have still done it if I had.?
