How long did you stay at home with your 1st born?

I am due Dec.15th. The inlaws (7 people total) are coming Dec 21st. We live an hour from the beach and since our home is too small for everyone they want to rent a house that week and spend Christmas together. Fine, except who knows when this baby will be born. I said no to "staying" out there for a week. I want to be home with my baby!!! I said we will try and come out for Christmas eve night and spend that night but I am not going to commit to anything. They are free to visit us whenever they like but I am not packing up my week old (if that) baby to go sit at a beach house.

FWIW: They live in Iowa and we live in Florida so the next time they will see the baby is in Feb. for his church baby dedication in Iowa.

I'd think you were crazy if you said you were going to the beach for a week after having a baby!! ?No! ?I don't think you're being unfair. ?You're being realistic. ?

no way I would trek an hour each way to the beach house! what if you have a C-section and are too sore to ride in a car that long? I hope your family will be coming to you so you can park your butt on the coach with your baby!

totally realisitc for you to stay home - delivering and baby and taking care of a newborn is hard work and you need to be where you are comfy.

You are being MORE than reasonable.  I wouldn't go anywhere and spend the night with a week or two week old.  You will be in recovery and you will need that time.  Let them come to you.

I feel so much better. I talked to 2 of my good friends that agreed with me but I wanted an unbiased opinion. There is no way I would asked my mother. She would have blown a gasket knowing that they even had the nerve to ask. Thanks girls. I know I made the right decision.
