3rd Trimester

My foot is killing me (I am in tears)

The screws are trying to come out from the surgery last aug. and it just hurts. I can not even put on tennis shoes and flip flops are starting to get to me.

It wouldnt be so bad but when I walk I can feel the screws popping and it just makes it worse.

Here is to the next 9ish weeks give or take.

Re: My foot is killing me (I am in tears)

  • I feel your pain.  Literally.  I have a metal plate that reaches along the entire side of my foot along with about 10 screws.  They are moving, and I can feel them.  It's leaving bruises all around my incision area.  And of course there is nothing they can do right now.  I can feel metal sticking out the side of my foot.  Yuck.

Try to relax and stay off your feet as much as possible.

we can be in pain together  I Have a plate and 5 screws. We shall start a I hate my feet club

  • What happened to yours?  I shattered my heel and ankle.  But it was 5 years ago now.  They can't ever fix it fully.  It sucks, and I don't know anyone else with a metal foot.  LOL.
  • I had a 20 pipe cupling fall from about 15 feet onto my steel toe boots and bent the steel toe part  into my big toe joint in 2004. I had xrays but nothing ever "showed".  In 2008 I was having lots of pain in the same area so I was sent for a bone denstiy scan and it showed that I have degenertive (sp) bone disease. I also have problem with my arches. They also saw that on my right foot (the only one that has had surgery so far) the bone that connects the toe to the ankle was to long causing lots of pressure on the joint, so they shortned it and moved over the joint, that failed so they fused the joint. They used 5 screws and a plate.  Once this child is out the hardwear can come out.   Then work on the left foot can begin. (arch)

Holy crap. I thought two screws in my foot were bad!

My screws didn't try to back out while I was pregnant, but I did have foot surgery two months before I found out I was pregnant. Let me tell you how much fun it was running to the bathroom to puke while on crutches. :-|

Good luck! Keep your feet up as much as possible and ice that puppy down!

Geez!  Mine happened in a car accident.  They thought about fusing the joint, but don't know if it will help or make things worse.  Right now, the hardware can't come out.  It's been there since my accident.

If you can get away without fusing the joint, I *highly* recommend it.

I had my joint fused in October 2007 and the pain is worse now than it was before. I can't squat, I can't move faster than a fast walk, etc. I feel like an 80 year old woman most days.

I feel like that anyway :(  I can't stand for long at all, can't walk distance, and anything hurts me.  I can't walk on any uneven surfaces especially sand, dirt, etc.  My knees were also messed up in the accident.  I have no heel left in my foot, just the metal.  I can't do the joint fusion now anyway because with my knees I would end up back in a wheelchair, they said it would be worse than the first surgery.  With a toddler and another on the way, that's just not possible.  I don't know if I'll ever do it!  They said it will either help, make things stay the same, or make things worse.  That's a big gamble to take!
