TTC After a Loss

Anybody do iui without meds?

and would you? I want to start iu's but I'm not crazy about taking clomid. My Dr. does not use femara. I do ovulate but sometimes the timing is a bit off. But won't they be able to see that with blood and ultrasound? Part of me feels like it could be a waste to do iui without meds. What do you think?

Re: Anybody do iui without meds?

  • Your OOP right? Unless you have a lack of EWCM I dont know why you would do IUI.  I dont see any reason to spend on US and BW if you are not medicated. Is it the side effects of clomid you are worried about? If you were on low dose follistim or gonal-f you will most likely ovulate and I think side effects are much less then clomid.

Not sure what OOP means? I have had two losses and the last time I was pregnant was last Sept that is why I want to do Iui's.  I just read conflicting things about clomid and if i don't really need I am skeptical. My insurance pays for all procedures.

  • I just had this conversation with my RE on Thursday.  He said we had a 4% chance on our own.  A 10% chance with IUI without clomid and a 17% chance with injectibles and IUI.

I hated clomid and he said (he's not the RE who had me on clomid) that if I ovulate pretty regularly, clomid is not going to help and it is harder to control.  Injectibles, they can adjust mid-cycle successfully.  I also tried femera with my last doc and had fewer symptoms, but my new RE doesn't want to use it either.

Has your doctor said anything to you about trying injectibles?

    G/L!

  • Hi Ginger - this isn't calling you out, but just offering another opinion.

I didn't have a lack of EWCM,  - we are unexplained IF - all of our stuff works fine individually but wasn't making a baby - I had an IUI and it worked for us.  Also, the U/S and BW help to make sure that the follicles are mature enough to fertilize - so it's pretty helpful, medicated or not.
