TTC After a Loss

NTTCALR would these things bother you? (long sorry)

DH says I am ridiculous .....
When the women in his family are in my home they cannot stop doing things to clean & it bothers me. I have a VERY clean house & it makes me feel like they think it is not clean enough or something. He says just enjoy the extra help, which I try to do, but it really makes insults me that they think they need to do these things. I could not imagine going into someone's house & knit picking like this (which is what I think it is)

Just a few Examples
- MIL comes to babysit DS & cleans all of the pictures, mirror & basically any glass in the house while she is here, cleans the coffee pot, or just other small things that just make me feel like she is hunting for some dirty. Once she cleaned DS fan in his room. She also has to announce to me a list of things she has cleaned.

- his cousin just stayed with us & I saw her smell our kitchen sponge then another time just minutes after arriving I see her run her hands over my counter & then check her hand to see if it comes up clean (it did) WTF?

AHHHHH I am sure these sound petty & I have not reacted to them but these Italian New Yorkers are slowly driving me nuts.

Do you do things like this at other peoples houses?
Maybe I am the weird one, should I be dusting my friend's house when I go there?

  • That's crazy, almost borderline OCD to me. How rude!

  • Yeah, I don't mind if my family helps clean up after themselves when they visit, but if they start cleaning glass, mirrors, toilets, etc., I'm going to have a fit.  Unless my arm is broken, I don't need that kind of help. I would be irritated too!

  • It's rude, hands down.  Even if your house wasn't clean they don't have a right to investigate, make comments or go ahead and clean your stuff.

My MIL has been coming over since DS was born and says every time "I should really hire a house cleaner for you".  Our house is pretty damn clean, she's just neurotic about cleaning.  It annoys me to no end.

  • That's incredibly rude.  Next time, walk over with a stick of deodorant in your hand, smell their armpit, apply said deodorant, and say, "I don't think you cleaned well enough this morning.  Here, let me help."

I pictured myself doing that, I never would, but it would be hilarious.
