3rd Trimester

this can't last forever, right?

I've been having contractions since about midnight... I can't sleep through them, but they aren't really getting stronger and there is no real pattern. At my last NST I was having tons of contractions and they kept me for a bit to check and see if I was dilating- nothing. 1cm and 50% effaced the whole time.

I'm sooo tired. I don't think these are the real thing, but they are so uncomfortable! I want it to either stop or turn into something... well maybe stop for a bit and let me take a nap, then pick back up and turn into something, lol.

Anything I can do to either make them more productive or stop them? I have a call into my OB for something unrelated.... I don't even want to mention the contractions to her b/c I know it would mean a visit to L&D. I'm not going unless I get to leave with a baby, dang it!

  • Try drinking lots of water.  You may be dehydrated.

  • I know some doctors/midwives allow mom to take a sleeping pill or a Benadryl at your stage. It lets you get some very much needed sleep to get you ready for the real thing! Maybe ask about that or check to see if it's on your OK'ed medicine list?

definitely not dehydrated... I drink 4-5 giant QT mugs of water every day. Plus tea or milk with meals. I've downed probably 3 or 4 just since midnight, because I keep thinking maybe more water will make it stop!

  • my contrax started 39 hours before i actually gave birth...the first one came at 3am and then continued to come from 8-20 minutes apart for about 24 hours....then around 6am the next day they started at 4-6 min apart and about 11am is when I could no longer speak...no amount of water I drank made them go away...I couldnt get checked b/c it hurt me so bad and his head was apparently in the way..i got my epi around 2pm and they could finally check me and i was at 9...so hang in there for as long as you can at home...GL :)

39 HOURS??? Oh no! Were there any breaks or did it just keep going?

I've tried walking around the house, laying down, changing positions, etc and nothing really seems to stop them.

I keep telling myself it's not "false" labor, and the entire process can last weeks... but it's not really helping!
