Max & Sadie are 1!!!!

I wrote this letter tonight to them. Today is such a mix of emotions. I am so grateful for them, but still so emotional over the loss of my 3rd trimester and their NICU stay. *wipes away the tears* Here's the letter:

Max & Sadie,

I'm sitting here in our new home listening to the wave machine in your nursery knowing that Sadie's butt is in the air and Max's back is up against the side of the crib and you are both sleeping.

I don't even know where to begin to tell you how much you are loved. We wanted a baby for so long and we got the best gift of all, twins! Mommy tried to keep you in as long as possible, but at 4pm on August 9th, Max had different plans. You were born in to this world on August 10th at 5:14am (Max) and 5:15am (Sadie). You had a rough beginning, but you were taken care of by the best nurses and doctors. We visited you everyday and have never been away from you for more than a couple of hours since.

Both of you have grown so much in the past year. Max, you are pulling up to stand, babbling like crazy and have a smile that lights up the entire room. Sadie, you are cruising already, very determined and have the most intense and beautiful blue eyes anyone has ever seen. I can't believe that you were once so tiny and helpless. You both have strong opinions like your Momma, and both of you study things so intensely like your Daddy.

You have come a long way babies. You are now our little kiddos pulling at our pant legs. We want the world for you and hope we can give it to you. I hope you understand the decisions we've made were because we want the best life for you two. We've never wanted anything as much as we wanted you and you have far surpassed our dreams.

Sadie, I love the way you snuggle in to your Daddy's neck when you meet someone new, the way you get so excited you wave your arms around to clap, how you have known what you want since you were born, the way you size everyone and everything up before you make a judgement. Keep being a strong woman, it's an amazing virtue.

Max, I love the way you get so excited when I pick you up, the way you point at everything as a way to explore your environment, how you hold your head to your shoulder and smile at me when I feed you, how you study everything with such pure curiosity, the way your smile captivates everyone you encounter. Keep being such a happy person. Your happiness is contagious and will get you far.

We have decided to start a tradition of Park n Pizza for your birthday. We'll take you to a park, enjoying our time as a family and then have pizza delivered. Allowing you to each order what you want. You will even get your first taste of pizza for your first birthday!

We love you more than words could ever describe. We are always here for you.
