Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Abnormal periods/fertility issues/birth control/confused....

Hi Guys, Just wanted to put a few things out there to see if anyone can relate. We had been trying for 2 yrs and I had been having weird month long periods here and there over the past 7 months or so, I have had blood work, and a biopsy and ultra sounds to find out what the heck was causing my crazy periods.. all the tests showed I was normal. So, we were going down the road to see a fertility dr. but all of a sudden I got prego!  and had a m/c at 9 weeks. I spotted the whole time I was pregnant, but my dr. didn't lead me to any reason to be concerned cause it's so common to spot in the 1st tri anyways.. after my m/c I bled as expected for 2 weeks or so, it stopped for a week and started up again. Because of my prior issues of bleeding for long periods of time, and then spotting during the pregancy, and all the bleeding after that, needless to say I have not had any "time" with my hubby which has been so hard. So I found a pack of birth control pills I had not taken awhile ago and because I am dying for a break, I started the pack...I just want some reprieve from all of this bleeding. Is this bad? I feel like I should not be taking them, but a girl needs a break !!! I plan to call my dr. tomorrow to tell her. We do plan to try for a baby again in a few months but until then I just don't know if I can handle this constant bleeding. It's too much for me emotionally...  your thoughts are appreciated..

  • I'm thinking this might be a better question for a TTC board... there's a reason you're bleeding.

    best of luck.

(ps - it's not "sooo common" to bleed 1st tri. It's happens. but don't let doc dismiss it)

  • i would talk to the dr before experiementing with any bcps. he may very well give you a script for bcp to help level out your hormones, BUT in some cases bleeding post mc could indicate another problem, such as remaining "products of conception."

i hope you get the answers you need from your dr. also, i would recommend charting/temping to see if you're ovulating if you are not put on birth control pills.

    hope all is well!

  • I would call your dr., but I know mine pushed bcps to me at my follow up. She said it helps get your body back to normal and you can start ttc the month you stop taking them, and lots of her patients have been successful. I would definitely talk about the bleeding though, maybe there is a problem that needs attention.
