NBR: I need a good salsa recipe!

I really want to try making my own salsa.  I'm looking for a good recipe for regular old tomato salsa.  Something with a medium amount of hotness to it...

Let me know if you have one.

  • different take on salsa, but here you are:

1 container fresh salsa from the produce aisle (it does have jalapenos in it but you could add more).

    1 can corn, drained

    1 can black beans, drained

    1 cucumber, seeded and diced

    1 orange bell pepper, chopped

    juice of one lemon

mix all ingredients and enjoy. ?I've also added avocado which is great as well.?

  • This is my go to salsa recipe

    2-3 tomatoes

1 onion (yellow, red, or white all work fine)

A few spoonfuls jalapeno peppers (I use the pickled kind in a jar)

chopped cilantro (however much you like!)

Dice the tomatoes and onion, combine in a bowl.  Sprinkle with salt and pepper.  You can use the jalapenos whole or chop them up.  Add the jalapenos and cilantro and mix.  I also like to add some of the juice from the jalapeno jar to make it spicier.  Start off slowly and you can add more if you need it.  I like to let it sit for a few hours before serving so the salt can help draw the juice from the tomatoes.

This sounds delicious.  I was looking for a homemade receipe myself, thanks!

  • I don't follow a specific recipe.  Every time I make it, it is a combination or red and yellow onion, tomatillos, tomatoes, cilantro, jalapenos/poblanos peppers, garlic, cumin/chili powder.  Some pureed-ish in the food processor mixed with some just chopped by hand.  It is always good and always tastes different and can easily be adjusted as you go.
