Suggestions/advice re: constipation

ds is constipated. He is having bm's but they are very very hard and pellet like..  What can I give him to help soften them?  He appears to be very comfortable when pooping and is fussy throughout the day.  He does poop but its so hard.  Any suggestions or advice?  TIA

Pears, peaches or prunes should help him poop. Warm apple juice, pear juice or prune juice should also work. DS often gets very constipated, and sometimes for him, the only thing that works is stimulating things with the rectal thermometer. Not pleasant, but normally makes him poop when he's miserable from being constipated. Because of DS's constipation issues, he cannot have apples, applesauce or bananas, all binding foods. GL.
