VENT: My friends are bugging the hell out of me.

So I spent the day with my girlfriends yesterday and two of them were sharing a cake that was made with Splenda. They offered me some but I told them that I'm trying to avoid artificial sweeteners during pregnancy. They both rolled their eyes and told me that was silly. Silly or not, it's what I want to do, leave me alone.

We got to talking about a girl we know who is 5 months pregnant (she thinks) and has yet to see a doctor because she has no insurance. I said that's crazy, that she needs to get tested for spina bifida, down syndrome, GD, etc. and NEEDS to get prenatal care. Then one of my friends asks what was the point of the testing. Her exact words were, "I don't see the point because I'm not going to abort if it does have down syndrome. So the testing is useless." I didn't say anything, I was too irked to even go there. 

Then we went to Marble Slab (cake batter ice cream rocks!) and one of the same friends got a low-fat yogurt and offered me some of that. I said 'no, thanks', not because of the fact it was low fat but because I was in cake batter heaven. She then goes 'You know you can't avoid low-fat foods during your entire pregnancy.' Why won't they just leave me alone and let me be?!

I love them, I truly do but are all just so close that we get a little too blunt with eachother. I'm sure the fact that I'm horomonal doesn't help.

So there goes my vent. Bravo to you for making it this far!

sorry that sucks. I dealt with it during my pg from everyone. All I heard was how over paranoid I was and people had babies for millions of years and I was just going to drive myself crazy and that I was going to be the same as a mom and my poor kid b/c I would never let them do anything. People are rude and honestly I think a lot of them are idiots b/c I know they smoked during pg and have some questionable parenting skills. IFers I think are more into the up to dates in parenting/pregnancy b/c of our troubles. Maybe my opinion is off but it's just  a thought. For now screw them. you are doing what is best for you and your baby and that is what matters. And 5mos w/no prenatal is just irresponsible even w/;out insurance there are ways to get prenatal care good luck sorry for the rambling response but people picking at a mothers attempt to take care of herself/baby irks me.

my mom and sister did the same thing all the way through my pregnancy. i just responded that i had worked too hard and spent way too much money getting to this point to ruin it on something silly like artifical sweeteners (or whatever else they didn't see the point in avoiding). what made it worse was that my sister was pregnant at the same time, so she's be drinking a pepsi while i was asking if there was any caffeine free around.

it gets even more fun after you have the baby, unfortunately. DS is a preemie, so we have to be a bit more cautious and i get tons of eye rolls. you learn to just blow it off.

I avoided artificial sweeteners too. . . in fact, I'm wondering now about continuing to avoid them. . .

Sorry your friends were so difficult.  Your body, your choice, your baby--keep making the decisions that are best for YOU!

(It will be interesting to see how they act when they are the ones pregnant!)

That would get on my nerves too, how rude, it's your body!!!

THe only thing I don't agree with is the testing, not everybody wants the testing. I didn't do it because it wouldn't have changed my mind either. However, being pregnant with no prenatal care is just stupid!!!!!! That would piss me off hearing about that. There are programs they can join to get care for the health of the baby for crying out loud!

I think I might want to hang out with your friends just for the cake and ice cream factor.  I wish spending the day with my girlfriends involved those things more often. Lol!

When I was pg I learned that the more info you give people the more they have to critique.  So if I was offered something that I didn't want because I was avoiding it during pregnancy I'd just say "no thank you" and leave it at that.  If I was pressed on the issue I'd make an excuse like I'm not hungry or I just had some earlier etc.  That helped to avoid everyone giving their opinion on what I was or wasn't doing.

I'm early in mine but I feel the same way! My PG friend was chomping down on deli meats and Pepsi and I thought silently to myself "I've gone through way too many painful sub-Q injections, mood-altering meds, and $$$$ to throw it all away on XYZ".
