Babies: 9 - 12 Months

6-12 Please tell me there is a light at the end of this

DD is going thru 4 mo. wakeful but has never STTN or been a good sleeper. She was basically up all night last night. I don't know how much longer I can go w/o sleep. When did it get better for you? How long did 4 mo. wakeful last? Any sleep tips? Thanks, I'm exhausted!

  • 4 month wakefull lasted about a month with us.  We started sleep training at 5 1/2 months and now at 6months she's sleeping much better!  It does get better (sometimes).
  • Well, DS started sleeping consistently through the night about 1.5 months ago.

It got worse before it got better.  He never had a "4 month wakeful," he was just always wakeful.  :)

  • Lasted about 1 month.  Was really bad for about 1-2 weeks, up every hour at night.  We never did sleep training and he kind of just grew out of it!  Hope it's over soon for you.
  • DD didn't start sleeping better until 13 1/2 months, and that's only because she's co-sleeping.

  • DS started STTN consistently (12 hours) right before he turned 5 months. We did do CIO though. From what I gather on here, it doesn't necessarily work for every baby, but it did for us and I'm glad. I really hope that you get some relief soon, I remember how awful that all was!

  • Well, my DS has never STTN.  We didn't go through the 4 mo wakeful because he's always been up every 2 hours his entire life.  Sorry, not want you want to hear!

  • It lasted about a month of DD being up every 45 minutes! At 6.5 months she just started STTN on her own. I hope that gives you some hope!

  • i cant relate except to say im sorry you are going through this!  our LO has been STTN since 7 weeks...and by that i mean 9 hours.  then it increased to about 12 at 4 months and stayed that way.  (he is 6 months now) he did have a little bit of wakefulness for about 3 days....the first time we went down to get him but after that, he soothed himself back to sleep.  he is a huge thunb sucker.
  • My DD started her 4-month wakeful at 3.5 months and it basically didn't stop until we did sleep training. We didn't want to do CIO until she was 6 months, so we went in to soothe, offer a paci etc. for a while. We also co-slept for most of month 5. The co-sleeping helped us to see that she slept soundly w/o a feeding from midnight to 6am. When we were ready to do sleep training, we focused on the middle-of-the-night wakeup first. I continued to offer a feeding during the first half of the night. She showed dramatic improvements immediately after we started CIO. She was 6 months and 1 week. Other helpful things for us were leaving several pacis in the crib and letting her sleep w/a small blankie. She also started sleeping better once she could easily roll to her belly (also around 6 months).
  • i've been in a 4 month wakeful since she was born - my DD just isn't into sleep never ever - I did Ferber but that didn"t work for us so we took a break and may try again if things don't get better. GL
