High-Risk Pregnancy

New Here-Placenta Previa

Hi everyone. Yesterday I had my big U/S and found out I am having a little boy...and the tech also mentioned that I had a low lying placenta. I didn't think a bit about it...until my Dr called me late last night and put me on bed rest for a condition called Placenta Previa. I have an appointment on Monday.

I have done some googling of it....and all the information I read is terrifying. Between blood transfusions and premature delivery...Im shocked.

My question....Is there anyone else with this on here? If so....how has the pregnancy been for you? What complications are you having...?  I want to know everything!!

Re: New Here-Placenta Previa

  • I had placenta previa. There is still a chance ur placenta might move. Usually they do. Mine never did and the results were just having a csection at 37 weeks. As far as what u need to do is stay off ur feet as much as possible , do not lift anything heavy and no sex. I only had bleeding in my first tri and was put on bed rest for a few weeks. I never had any bleeding after that. Just take it easy and everything will be fine. Best of luck

  • Thank you! The information you read online can be terrifying.
  • hi

i have  a complete placenta previa. i found out about it at 19 weeks. i was put on bed rest at 24 weeks for very very light spotting. I will be on bed rest untill i have a c-section at 37 weeks. i am now 28 weeks and have gotten a routine in place for my day. i would be happy to chat more as i have done ALOT of reading over the last month.

I get alot of peace out of knowing tht both i and the baby are doing well. i would much rather be trapped inside during the winter though!

  • Hi! your situation sounds a lot like mine. I also have a complete previa as of right now. My dr. isn't sure if it will fix itself, and since I have had episodes of light bleeding before, bed rest it is. I can't imagine being on bedrest for the remainder of my pregnancy though....Please tell me how you do it!! Today has been nice and relaxing, but Im finding myself getting very very bored.

Where did you go to research it? All the information I have read online has just been a nightmare and always seems to focus on the worst case scenario...Which really scares me.

I am happy seeing the baby on U/S yesterday and knowing he is doing well....It made my day Big Smile

  • Is it low-lying or previa?  Low-lying is not nearly as serious as previa.  I had low-lying with my last baby and it did in fact move.
  • i had a previa (they never figured out what type - it was shaped weird...) and had 4 bleeding incidents. each one got progressively worse. i was put on "restricted movement" (no sex, no orgasm, no lifting anything over 15lbs, no exercise) at 22w and was on and off bed rest with 2 of the bleeding incidents. we delivered DS at 32w6d after a pretty significant bleed (no transfusion or anything) caused contractions.

hang in there and make sure you follow the dr orders. it's hard because you feel fine and 9 times out of 10 nothing bad will happen if you break the rules. good luck!!

  • It is hard to be stuck in the house and on the couch when you feel fine. Infact i feel great most days . I did alot of reading on web Md they have a comminuty board as well. My sister is a high risk L&D nurse so that helps alot too. As the baby gets bigger it puts more pressure on your placenta which raises your chances for a bleed. Most "big" bleeds happen after 26 weeks. many woman go until their c/s with no major issues.( i am hoping this is the case for us all) I would really take it as easy as you can . When i get upset about all the fun summer things i cant do i really try to focus on the big picture (our Baby!!!!!!) but i still get bummed out. This is our first so i dont have to take care of anyone but me. How are you going it with your son? do you have a plan in place yet?
  • Exactly the same thing just happened to me.  I was told on Friday after my  big U/S that my placenta is a bit low, but could move so they scheduled me for a follow up U/S in October, I wasnt put on bed rest yet, but was told no sex until the next U/S.  I'm having a boy too and was thrilled to know he's doing great.  I hear this is pretty common.  Be careful with books and googling.  Im guilty of that alot, my husband actually hides the books sometimes because I make myself crazy.  The dr told me its common, they'll watch it, and it could totally move on its own - just watch for bleeding.

  • i also found out about a month ago that they are watching me for the same thing... i tried not to worry about it too much bc it still has time to move. i am going back to the doctor tomorrw to find out more... wish me luck!
  • Hi,

I found out I had partial placenta previa at 19 weeks. At 30 weeks I was diagnosed with complete previa. My doctor never put me on bed rest but told me to be on "pelvic rest" for the remainder of my pregnancy. I get another ultrasound at 37 weeks, and if the placenta hasn't moved, they schedule me for a c-section. I'm 34 weeks pregnant now and thank God no bleeds.
