Possibly a dumb question about sign language.

So I know you're suppose to say the word when you sign so your LO will learn both, but are you suppose to say it while you sign, or after or before? ?I always wonder if he's focusing on my mouth or hands or gets confused... I think I'm over thinking this.

Re: Possibly a dumb question about sign language.

  • I've always said it while signing.

  • While you're signing.  At least that's what our sign language teacher did, so I'm assuming that's right!  When I have kids in my class that use sign, I always say it while I'm signing too.

Me, too.  I'm pretty sure that is what you are supposed to do.

  • I would do a combo --

For example - if he wanted "more" I would say "Oh you want more" then start signing and saying more at the same time.

  • I say what I am signing just like I do when I am in a hearing and nonhearing group. Many of the deaf also read lips while seeing what you are signing. I plan on the girls being able to carry on full conversations signing.
  • Yeah that makes sense! ?I knew I was over thinking it.?
