NBR: How much would you ask for in salary?

I have a great WAH job.  Before D was born, I was working full-time, but over the last few months, my work has slowly been decreasing and I've been putting in less hours, so that now I am working about 20 hours per week.  I'm going to officially go to part-time soon, which means (obviously) a salary cut.  My boss has asked me to let her know a salary that I think will be reasonable for part time pay.

So, would you ask for 50% of what you are making now (since I will pretty much be half time)?  Or would you ask for a little more?

Not sure if it would have any bearing on your decision, but my boss is the owner of her own company, and right now I am her only employee.  However, with me going part-time, she is going to probably have to hire someone else in the next few months to help her out with other projects, since I'm not really in the position to take on more work.

  • I would go for around 60%... not sure why, but I don't think you should have to cut it in half...

  • I guess I just assume if you work 1/2 the hours, you should get 1/2 your salary.  I would start with that and your boss thinks it's too high, suggest an hourly rate and ask for over time if you go over 20 hours a week.
  • another factor is if any benefits change due to the hours changing.

  • I too was thinking 60%
  • I would ask for 60% also, at least its a starting point for negotiations. Also, if you've been working for her for awhile you should factor in your seniority also. Usually part time pay is hourly, could you come up w/ a fair hourly wage then if you work over 20 hrs you will be compensated. GL!
