How to straighten a rug out?

I bought a cheap rug from the dollar store over a month ago to go by the front door. It was folded in half at the store and now I can't get the crease out. We keep tripping over it b/c it sticks up. I tried putting books on it for days and it didn't do anything. Any other ways to get it out?

Try running it through the washing machine.  This usually works for me.

The only thing I can think of is soaking it then laying it flat outside (with some kind of weight on it) until it's completely dry.

I forgot to say to lay it flat to dry.  So new creases don't get put in it.

I didn't even think to wash it. Thanks ladies, I will try it.
