Babies: 9 - 12 Months

I fear forward facing

DS is still RF.  Most of my friends convert to FF as soon as they can.  I'm just terrified I'll have to slam on the brakes and end up hurting DS's neck.  He's 13 months old and only has 2 lbs left before I have to flip him.

I'm being ridiculous right? Does anyone else feel this way?  I'm a nervous driver anyways.

Re: I fear forward facing

  • I plan on keeping DD rear-facing past 1 year.  I don't know if she'll stay that way til she hits the height or weight limit but I'm not turning her as soon as I "can".

  • wow, only 2lbs already?  what kind of seat do you have?
  • Evenflo Triumph

It only goes to 30lbs RF - DS is 28.

I'm in Canada, I think the US models go to 35lbs.

ah, i see -- i didn't know the limits were different in canada...i wonder why that is?

at any rate, i'm nervous about flipping DS too.  all you can really do is drive as carefully as possible and hope for the best.  it is scary, and it sucks.  i'm just going to try to stay as optimistic as possible...

  • APA now suggests RF until they are at least 2 yo.

If only I could find a seat that would allow that.....

I think I've even heard as high as 5-6 years old in the UK.

  • it's too bad that shipping from the us to canada is freaking expensive bc you could order one from here.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to buy a seat and ship it across the border.

It's kinda funny because usually Canada has higher/stricter safety than the US - but not in this case.

  • Is the Graco My Ride available in Canada?

I have a chunker too. He is already over 28 pounds and only 10 months. I have a Britax Marathon that is rated to 33 lbs rear-facing. Depending on how early he hits that I might end up getting a Graco My Ride to keep him rear facing until 40 pounds. I was able to keep my daughter RF past two and I don't know if I will be able to with my big boy.

  • I'm looking forward to it because my DS will be so much happeir being able to see me and not have to stare at the back of a seat.  I feel so bad that he has nothing fun to look at!
    Baby #3 on the way!
