My mom bought a bunch of stuff for DS and told me to take back whatever he didn't need and exchange it for something else. I was really excited since I can't afford to regularly shop there.
I told the cashier that I would like to exchange the items I had and she ended up just crediting my mom's card instead. When I explained to her that I no longer wanted the items since she didn't do an exchange she basically said, "Too bad for you". It was really frustrating and a little humiliating. I just recently stopped working for BabyGap, so I know customers do exchanges like this all the time. It's not like I'm going to go ask my mom for the cash now.
Re: So sad, had to leave BabyGap empty-handed
Oh heck yes they can. They can void that refund right out of their system. Call right now, ask to speak to the store manager (even if it was the one right there). First, why would they want a credit return (which deducts from their sales for the day) vs. an exchange? Explain that you want the transaction voided and an exchange towards merchandise you picked out. Or you want a merchandise credit issued when you return this evening to utilize at a later time. When you call, ask to speak to the manager and directly after she answers, ask her to SPELL her name. Be sure to write it down. Then spell it back to her and ask if she was the manager working earlier when you were in. You can fix it.
