For those who dont believe in gay marriage..

Im always curious about this so if you are ok with answering...

If your LO wound up being gay how would you feel/deal with it?

Do you have issues with gays in general or just the marriage part?

TIA

Re: For those who dont believe in gay marriage..

  • I believe that the Lord made a union to be between a man and a woman. If someone chooses to be with someone of the same sex then I have no reason to judge them but it is not how I choose to live my life. If my LO chooses that way of life then I will love them unconditionally still but will always still feel that he should be with a woman and not a man.

Do you have issues with gays in general or just the marriage part? I don't agree, but I won't judge. I have some gay friends and they are amazing people...Of course I love them like crazy!

    TIA

  • I would support him 100%.  I won't love my child any less based on his life choices.  I have gays in my family (with kids) and we don't treat them any differently.  Now my DH unfortunately feels differently.

  • I have no opinion on gay marriage - someone will always think I am right or wrong and there is no right answer to make anyone happy. Either way, someone gets hurt.

It irks me when people say "It will ruin marriage, it will no longer be sacred"

Um no, people getting married for green cards or for the hell of it has ruined the sacredness of marriage, not men marrying men.

  • As a christian I have to say that I think it is sad that there is so much hate surrounding this subject. I firmly believe that as christians it is our job to love ALL people, otherwise what is the appeal of leading a christian life? To make people feel discrimated against does not win anyone to Christ.
  • I'm not gonna lie...I would be really upset bc I believe marriage should be kept between a man and woman, but that wouldn't make me love my child any less. I just wouldn't agree with his choice.

...and the problem I have with homosexuality is not with the person, just the way of life.

  • I find these 2 statements to be incompatible:

    "I'm not judging"

"Marriage should be between a man and a woman"

If you are saying someone's union shouldn't exist, then you are judging.  You are entitled to that, but for crying out loud own it!!!

  • I would be ok with it because I love my son, but I would still be disappointed. In the end, I just want him to be happy. DH said the same thing.

I just have issues with the marriage part. I mean, I don't want two guys kissing in front of me because I think it's gross, but I don't want to see a guy and a girl making out in the park, either. God made the union between a man and a woman. That's how it should be.

The main problem I have with gay in general (which may get me flamed, but I don't care) is that they have pride parades for it. Everyone does. Gay, women, minorities. Everyone can be proud that they're different, but if a white man had a parade there would be he!! to pay.

I believe in equality. If one group can have a parade, everyone can. If someone isn't allowed to do it, they should ALL be banned.

I agree. I thought marriage was about love and wanting to be with the person you love forever, not what sex you are. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion though.

    ditto.

Love is love and who would I be to deny someone of that.  DH does not agree and it makes me sick.

FIL on the otherhand would disown our child if they were gay.  If this were to ever happen and DH still talked to his dad I would divorce him in a second.

    110%

  • I would only be sad that her life may not be as "easy" because of it, dealing with prejudice, inequality, etc. But hopefully by the time she is that age gay marriage and the gay community in general will be more accepted. I am fully supportive of LGBTQs and gay marriage, and would support my child and love her no matter what.

I have an issue with the phrase "Do you have issues with Gays" and find it derogatory and offensive. ?You've marginalized them with this phrasing before you even ask the question.

You should read Brad Pitt's interview in Parade magazine this month. It's more than just tolerance. Tolerance is the bare minimum in an empathetic society. You should work harder to rid this type of vocabulary and mindset before your LO can be influenced negatively by it.?

  • I will always love my son no matter.

I belive everyone should have the right to marry.  And I feel churches can choose not to allow same sex marriages in their church.  Government has the obligation to protect human rights: Gays should be able to marry and All have the right to inturpret/practice religon as they choose.  (sorry about spelling)

  • ...  technically ALL other existing parades are white man parades...

Parades hosted by minorities are to raise awareness and celebrate what has been critized and trapped behind closed doors for centuries

.... Celebrations and messaging us white people have been having for centuries

What would you prefer them be called? And if you say 'people' I think I'll vomit.

Whether you like it or not, people ARE categorized. I'm a woman. I'm a German. I'm a brunette. Yes, I AM a person, but I am more than that.

And you can clearly tell in the rest of her post that she doesn't mean it in a bad way. She was being inquisitive. Not like, "Darn those gays!" THAT could be offensive.

Here in NYC everyone DOES get their own parade.  Gay pride, St Patrick's Day, Columbus Day, Dominican Day, Puerto Rican Day...  I could go on and on!

  • I think that a church should be allowed to decide who they will or won't marry. ?But because marriage is a legal institution too, not just a religious one, I think any one should be able to marry and to gain the legal rights that come along with marriage. ?

I disagree. We are more tolerant today than we have EVER been, but apparently it's still important to remind white people that black people, Latinos, gay people, etc. are just becoming more accepted in society. All I keep hearing is, "Yeah, but we USED to be more oppressed."

Also, most parades are about how proud they are to be who they are. Great! But if a white man is proud to be a white man, he's racist and sexist.

I am always curious to know why people are against gay marriage.  I underestand that some people say that it is against their religion.  But that is their religion - why do they need to put their views on others and expect them to conform?  This is supposed to be a free country so I don't know why gay marriage is not allowed.

To answer your question - I will always love my sons and support them.

  • Yes, but all of the "white man" parades aren't actually going out and saying directly they are being proud to be white.  They are saying they are proud of their nationality or something like that.  If there was ever a "white pride parade" there is no doubt in my mind anyone participating would be called a skinhead or something of that sort.

That's because there are skinheads and other racist groups that do pride themselves on being white and hate those aren't.  Maybe you should be blaming them for not being able to have "white pride" parades without judgment, rather than gay people trying to celebrate who they are.

  • The word "gay" used to mean HAPPY, why is that offensive?

I'm sorry, perhaps I missed where I said this was gay peoples fault?  I am not blaming anyone, just making a general statement.  It's at the fault of no one, that is just how it is.  These days no one can do anything without being called racist, judgemental, etc.  We are all so worried about being politically correct because no matter what you say it seems like someone will be offended by it.

i heart this statement. As someone who has turned away from religious groups and religion bc there is so much judgment and hatred it is so nice to see someone who is religious feeling the same way I do. We should love ALL people since God does

I guess what I'm saying is if there weren't racist groups and people who judged then gay people, or any minority for that matter, wouldn't have to have parades anymore to remind us of their oppression and would be treated and respected without regards to their sexual orientation, race, etc.

Calling someone a "waste?" - SERIOUSLY???

  • Can I step in and say, there are no parades to celebrate skin color-- I think we're missing that major point.  No one celebrates being BLACK.  They celebrate being African American, or Jamaican, etc etc.  No one celebrates being TAN, they celebrate being Puerto Rican, Mexican, Ecuadorian, etc etc.  No one celebrates being WHITE.  They celebrate being Irish, German, British, etc etc.

To say a white man celebrates being white is ignorant.  I could care less what color my skin in, I care about who and where I come from.

Same with the GLBT community, they celebrate their pride in overcoming all the challenges they have faced and their strength for all they still have to face.

To answer the question, I'm completely ok with my daughter being lesbian, if that is who she is.  I'm not at all ok with society making her an outcast for being true to herself, or with her trying to conform and doing what feels wrong to her.
