When to OPK?

Not done this b4....so wondering when I should start using the opk? Before my d&c, I was always a 30 day cycle.....okay, maybe occasionally 28/29, but never a DAY past 30...but this is my history lately.....

2/6/09--d&c

3/12/09--1st AF

4/11/09--2nd AF (30 day cycle)

5/12/09--3rd AF (31 day cycle)

6/8/09--AF (27 day cycle)

7/3/09---AF (25 day cycle) and  8/3/09---AF (31 day cycle).....

So, question is....when should I start testing? I'm not temping yet....(dh doesn't even want me to use opk---he still thinks like his mommy taught him...you use it, you get pregnant).....anywho....so any tips on what day to start watching for the big O? What would you girls do?

TIA!!!

Re: When to OPK?

  • I would buy the internet cheapies.

I normally start testing on CD 10. Before my D&C I would get a positive on CD 12-13. Now after my D&C, one cycle it was CD 17 and this one is CD15.

They reason I start on CD 10 is because my O moves and I want to make sure I catch it.

This is smart. I normally start on CD 10 ish, only because my cycles are so sh!tty.

  • I would just buy the cheapies, and test early and often.  Otherwise I think you'll drive yourself crazy, wondering if you missed your O.

  • I agree with the previous posters.  For this month, you might go to target and get the First Response daily kit that has 20 tests and you start as soon as your period ends. That way, you will be sure not to miss it. It's about $35.  Then, if this month doesn't work for you, you can order some online or buy the 7 day test kit once you have a better idea of approximately when you ovulate. I am going to start testing tomorrow with a 7 day kit and test CD 13 to 19. Should work given my previous O's of CD 17 and CD 19. I think mine is moving back up, but has been later since the m/c.
