So I went to my first appointment yesterday and expected to make another appointment for next week for the ultrasound (which is what they told me over the phone). The nurse asked us a bunch of family history questions, the answer mostly being no. I took a pee test to confirm the pregnancy, but they never really told us we were pregnant. Silly, I know, but I kinda wanted someone else to tell me.
Then they took blood. I have a severe needle phobia and the nurse trying to take the blood had to leave because I started hyperventilating. We went over a little more family history and then the nurse came back in and talked me through her taking 5 vials of blood! It was the best blood taking experience I've ever had (and I've had quite a few, trust me!). I'm relieved when she tells me that the next required blood take is at 28 weeks.
We talk about an optional blood test at 18 weeks where they can check for a bunch of different diseases and disorders. We're thinking that since I pretty much go through an anxiety attack at the thought of a needle and because we would love the baby regardless that, we will opt out of that one.
Then they surprised us with an ultrasound! It was the most amazing thing to see. He/she looked like a little gummy bear laying there and my dh saw the heartbeat flickering away first. The doctor turned the sound on and we got to hear it. Beautiful. I shifted my weight a little and all of sudden he/she started moving their arms and legs about and bouncing up and down. I can't wait to see him/her again! Next appointment is in 4 weeks!

I *think* that worked.... if not, I uploaded the two pics in my blog!
