Infertility

XP: RE Update - IVF with ICSI

We are dealing with MFI and  went back to the fertility clinic last night for our "planning session".  DH's results from the SA he did just under two weeks ago showed his numbers are not improving.  Poor guy has done 4 of these things.  His numbers were getting better and then this one went back to pre-treatment numbers.   Not good.  We have a less than 1% chance conceiving on our own.  IUI is not an option.

We will be doing IVF with ICSI.  I have to call the the office on CD1 for an ultrasound and then will start with the treatment.  Thankfully, when I call on CD1 they schedule us for a "teach session" where we will spend 2 hours going over everything from insurance, procedure, how to administer the injectables, etc.  It is all very overwhelming.

Poor DH feels so bad.  He keeps saying this is his problem and now I'm the one that has to go through all the procedures, meds, etc.  The doctor said don't worry, she won't care once she's pregnant.  Thanks doc!

Anyways, DH signed up for this like its some kind of a business arrangment, while for me its a bit more emotional.

We have so many decisions to make and I'm totally overwhelmed.  They gave us a huge packet of information that we need to review and agree on certain things before our teach session.

  • I remember being totally overwhelmed with all the info I was given with my first IVF. And the first time we had to do an injection was an agonizingly drawn out process!

But i will tell you, as you go, it will get easier... or at least you'll get used to it. ;-)

that's really great that your DH has been so good with this whole process. Sadly, not all DHs are on board so quickly, especially when it is male factor issues.

I'm sure you two will be a great team and you will have your BFP soon!

    good luck!!

  • You will be so surprised at what you're capable of!  It IS overwhelming.  When I got my schedule and box of meds, I sat down with a calendar and wrote in what I needed to take each day.  I also googled the needle sizes so I knew which were IM and which were for mixing...all the info is out there in case you come home from the training and forget.

Best of luck!  You'll be an old pro before you know it.

  • I am beginning IVF also and just taking it all in stride, although it can be a big much!  I will say it really helps to have DH engaged.  He has been great in reviewing all of the consent forms to learning to give injections.  This just goes to show you that being a couple takes being a team and what you are willing to go through with him.  GL to you and I hope to follow you on your journey!
  • Thanks Gringa and MBandBud.  I appreciate the words of encouragement.  I'm sure I will be posting with more questions as the time moves on.  GL to both of you.

  • we had a full day of teaching sessions and planning sessions on Tuesday...  it is REALLY overwhelming at first, but eventually we started to feel better about the whole thing.     i'm glad you have a plan, though!    and i totally empathize with DH seeing this differently...  we're MFI too, and while I think my DH has held up pretty well, he is much more analytical and business-like about this whole thing!    on most days, i just laugh.   :-)   gotta love 'em.     good luck to you!
Brought to you by IVF, ICSI, limited fert, and oocyte cryopreservation.
    Because we're fancy like that.

  • We are in the exact same boat as you in this journey (MFI, need IVF with ICSI, just had our planning meeting). It is overwhelming & we haven't even had our injection class yet! But we are a team and we are in it together. I wish GL to you and we'll all get through it :)
