Babies: 9 - 12 Months

How is the Ergo different than the bjorn?

For the hips on the baby. The hips and legs are still dangling right? I have a backpack carrier with a frame. It makes DH more open to wearing her. I know she is very comfortable in there and it is easier on my back.

  • I'm sorry this was meant for AP

  • The baby isn't front facing, so they aren't hanging from their crotch.  It's better for them and better for your back.
  • I read on mothering.com that the Ergo can lead to back issues for the baby if used to much so I take it that baby wearing is everything in moderation? I switch front to back depending on her comfort.

I've never heard that, so I can't comment on it.   Ds never seems bothered by it though.  We don't used it constantly, so I can't imagine moderate usage would be an issue.

  • From what I understand, the Ergo supports the baby by their legs and butt - they are more in a sitting position and it puts less strain on their spine.  In the Bjorn, they "hang" by their crotch.  That said, I have used both - the Bjorn when DD was much smaller and now the Ergo all the time.  My DD had hip dysplasia when she was born and the orthopedist recommended the Ergo to keep her legs in the correct position.
