Does anyone have any advice on how to make drop offs easier? I stay and play for a few minutes and then go. It was working for a while, but lately she has been throwing fits at daycare and completely melting down when I leave her. She recently cut a tooth and I suspect we are not out of the woods yet and will see another tooth in the next two weeks. I can't imagine the tooth is to blame for all of this though.
It is killing me to leave her crying like that every day
Re: Separation Anxiety is killing me
not from personal experience but was just talking to two moms about this actually.
how is she after you actually leave? does she bounce back quickly?
every one told me, make it a routine. say goodbye the same way everytime. dont keep going back if she is crying. if she senses your anxiety, she will pick up on it. i.e. momma is going now. say goodbye-hugs, kisses-whatever your deal is, then leave.
It might not work but it has for my friends.
Does she watch you leave? Maybe the daycare provider can start having her play with a toy that they know she really enjoys while you leave.?
No idea I am not there yet, but I am sorry you have to see her cry it would melt my heart. ?
I worked with my first and I remember that awful feeling! He was home with me for months 6 thru 12 and then when we started back at daycare it was a nightmare! However, I used to stay and watch thru the one way window and he literally would calm down after like 2 minutes. Have you asked her teacher how long the fits are lasting? I know it's hard, but I used to remind myself that the stage will be over soon.
I was like you and used to play a few minutes and then leave. I didn't drag out the actual goodbye though. I hugged him, kissed him and told him that I would see him really soon.
Lots of luck to you. I know it's hard!
I wonder what the AP board would suggest?
BTW, I worked in a daycare in my younger days and the best thing to do is kiss and hug your baby before you leave along with saying that mama has to go to work and will be back. You have lots of fun today. Then LEAVE! prolonging your stay makes it way worse
GL - hugs too
I'm starting to go through the same thing so no advice.
Just wanted to say your siggy pic is ADORABLE!
Thanks! I was very pale in the spring :-/ I should spray a tan on myself in Photoshop or something! It certainly shows Savannah's goofy personality. She is quite a spitfire!
